I got asked out...

Okay so here's the situation. I've fancied my mum's best friends' son for the longest time ever, & today I went over with my mum for a dinner party & he got me on my own & asked me out.

Now obviously I'm thrilled about this but part of me feels like it will be weird, me dating my mum's best friends' son, you know. My mum & Carol have been friends for over 30 years now & her son's the most gorgeous man I've ever seen & he's absolutely wonderful, we've been friends for years & I had no idea he felt the same way as me. I do wonder if it will be weird being more than friends, but I guess I'm taking it all too fast, we haven't even gone out yet!

I said yes to him but I'm wondering whether to tell my mum about it. She probably had a clue something was up, I had the biggest smile on my face

Oh wow, how exciting! I definitely think you should go for it, but speaking to your mum would probably be a good idea. Just to get some advice from someone who knows the situation as well as you.

I don't know, my instinct would be to just keep it between you guys for a while and see what happens. Like you said you haven't everyone out yet and involving your mum already might put a lot of pressure on it all.

I think it would break the tension if you were up front about it. Because she would find out eventually if you guys got serious. And I'm sure she would happy for you and love to share your first date excitement. I think it depends on how close you are with your mum.
