I've been having nightmares of the abuse or bullying I went through every night for the past month or so, which is much more than usual. It's very draining.
Does anyone have any advice on dealing with them or making them go away?

I find that sleeping with the lights on and having teddy bear in my bed has helped to reduce my nightmares. Maybe you could try that. Or maybe tell your GP and see if the GP can prescribe with some medication to help reduce the nightmares.

Hi Amy,
Did you manage to get your sleep yesterday without any nightmares?
I hope that having a teddy bear in your bed helps you at night. Maybe instead of your room light have a night light on which you can plug in to your plug socket and they are very dim light.

I'm sorry that you've been having nightmares so frequently, I know from personal experience that having very frequent and emotionally draining nightmares is very hard.
Has anything happened in your life recently to trigger the nightmares to become more frequent? Has anything changed/become more stressful etc?
Sometimes I find that I have nightmares more if I see/experience triggers that bring back memories, (or I'm more stressed, or something has changed in my life etc), which then affects my sleep. A lot of times if I work through what ever it was that brought back memories it can really help to make sleeping easier.
Unfortunately still getting nightmares every night.
Things have changed, but if anything I'd say I've been less stressed recently. I'm seeing my mum a lot more because she keeps hold of my meds, she still lives with my dad (he abused me) but I don't have anything to do with him. I suppose that may be the trigger, I mean when I used to rarely see her, every time I did see I ended up overdosing and cutting badly after.

Having a night free from nightmares sounds good, having some respite can really make a difference.
In response to your previous post, it does sound like seeing your Mother more frequently could be triggering nightmares, even though you're not actually seeing your Father your mind might be associating him with her when you're around your Mother.
What is it about counselling that scares you? Is there anything specific or more of a general fear?
I'm scared because things are going alright at the minute, I'm the stablest I've ever been and I don't want to rock the boat and risk things slipping as counselling is going to bring up a lot of painful stuff.
Also about a year ago I went to try the counselling. Just had the first session just going over how it works and paperwork to do with the police investigation and confidentiality. We didn't talk about the abuse at all. But I had the worst dissociative episode I've ever had, lost over a days time, I was really frightening.

How's your sleep now? I find properly preparing myself, positively before bed helps? I'll get a warm bath/shower, warm drink, fresh bedding regularly, maybe listen to some familiar but calm music? I have to wear specific jarmers too.. I find if I try not to become too anxious before sleep, there's a better chance I'll not wake up or have nightmares.
With the counselling, I suppose it's difficult to know... Have you tried writing a list of pros and cons?
And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears. And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears...
