Opinions on not hiding fresh cuts on my arm?
I've gotten used to not hiding the scars on my arm, but recently I relapsed and made a few cuts on my arm without thinking. I would cover them when I'm out with friends or something, but if I am at the gym, etc, it is uncomfortable to wear long sleeves. My intention isn't to seek attention, but I was wondering what others thought about this?

Hi :) I'll admit that some might think you're doing it for attention, even though you're not.Just do what you feel comfortable doing. You don't have to give no one explanations.Good luck.

Do what feels comfortable to you would be my advice, screw what other people think.

tbh they should be covered due to infection risk until they are scabbed fully.

^ Fair point, didn't think of that.

If they're fresh, they should be covered because of the infection risk. Besides, if you take care of them they don't scar over as bad and generaly heal better. People might question a bandaged arm less than uncovered cuts. An ace bandage/wrap thing like you use for sprained wrists might work depending on where it is, too.

If you don't want to hide the cuts, don't. It's fully your choice. And I am not saying that you are harming for attention. But if someone were harming for attention, that isn't a bad thing.
I hate the "attention-seeker" label that some get slapped with when they don't hide their SI, or talk about it. SI is a problem regardless of whether or not is hidden, talked about or not talked about, and is a sign of deeper things the person is having issues dealing with.

I personally find seeing fresh cuts very upsetting and it adds to the whole "attention-seeker" arguments/label that SIers get.
None of my friends show me (neither do I show them) fresh injuries, except in the "I've screwed up, can you take a look?" situation.
Like the others say, fresh injuries need to be taken care of, covered with a dressing.

It doesn't matter where you come from; it matters where you go.
No-one gets remembered for the things they didn't do. We won't all be here this time next year,
so while you can take a picture of us. We're definitely going to hell,
but we'll have all the best stories to tell.
