Recovery "Buddy" *SI*

Hello =)

I have not been doing well with my SI lately and I was wondering..is there anyone out there who is willing to be my "I am going to try and stop cutting myself, NOW" buddy? Because I know there are lots of people who want to stop. But I am dead serious about it. I want to stop. Now.

And I just think it might be easier if there was someone who is in the same situation as I am and wants to kind of..go on that journey with me?

I have several reasons for my need to stop cutting now. Which are really important and, to me, more important than cutting. But I can't seem to make it on my own. So it would be lovely if there was anyone willing to do it with me.

The following content has been hidden - Reason : may be graphic/triggering
I have been cutting rather severely lately, which has also been impairing my ability to do daily tasks and, which is even more important, it keeps me from playing my instruments and doing sports. Both of which I REALLY need as stress relievers, anxiety attacks and so on. So it is crucial for me to stop.

I don't know if this is the right place to post it. If not, please, move the post. I just thought since it was a bit graphic..

I'm wondering if all of you may benefit from speaking also with somebody that is further along the line with recovery or recovered?

Just that, when you are starting to give up which is a fantastic step and I'm proud of you all, you are learning what will help etc and what won't. So it may be helpful to also have input from somebody who has already been there and got through that.

Just a thought though. x

Tig that is an interesting and very thoughtful perspective. Talking with someone who has recovered is a good idea. I have found though that walking the path of recovery alone is hard and makes me feel vulnerable. I think the road of recovery was meant to be walked with a friend. It helps to have someone who knows and understands and you are aiming for the same goals. We can also hold one another accountable.

Let's go buddies let beat this war against SI one battle one urge at a time!

I agree it would be a good one to walk with a friend. It could be that you buddy up together but also have someone you can come too who is perhaps further down the line? Like you say, it's nice to be aiming for the same goal at the same time :)

I'd be happy to talk with anyone who wanted to ask a question about recovery. I don't profess to be cured from everything but I would say that I am free from self harm, certainly cutting.

x

I think the idea of talking to people further along is a great idea. I am just under 8 months free of cutting so am by no means cured but absolutely cannot cut again because i will loose everything if i do so if people want to talk or are triggered feel free to pm. Urges will come and go but they get easier to handle with time! x

Same here...I'm currently only ~6mo free, but that's because I personally restart my count after slips (though I don't necessarily think that policy is best)...was free for ~1.5yrs before that with no cutting, burning, or piercing. Anyone who needs anything, feel free to PM me. I don't necessarily have any answers (most people don't), but I'm always willing to help if I can!

cweed- that is so kind of you and congrats on making it 1.5 years! I had been free for 7 years until last month...ooops but I am done...absolutely cannot and will not cut again even though the thoughts and urges are there....I am done!
and cweed, you are totally confusing me with the same avatar as me. I read your post and was like "wait, I didn't write that!" haha ;)

Haha, I totally know what you mean, Lynn...I left RYL for a month or so and when I came back it looked like I had been posting!
A slip is a slip...the work you've already put in will make it easier to stick to it now (at least, it seemed easier to me to 'stop' the second time.)
