Nutritionist?

I'm not even sure I spelt that right, sorry!

I checked with a mod about where to post this and she said it should be fine here, but if not, please don't shout at me!

Basically, I've had a lot of issues with food since the age of around 9. I've never been diagnosed with an ED but my MHT do keep an eye on my weight.

My problem is though, I am a seriously fussy eater. I can't eat any vegetables and I can only eat apples fruit wise. I have tried others and vegetables but I end up heaving and/or vomiting from the taste or texture. I have tried smoothies and any other method of getting these but nothing has succeeded.

Because of this, maintaining a healthy weight sensibly is obviously pretty difficult and I've been considering asking my GP to refer me to a Nutritionist but before I do I wanted to see advice from you guys. Do you think I would actually be able to achieve anything with a nutritionist or are there any other things that I could do?

They might suggest you see a psychologist also. I think nutritionists typically help people who need a certain diet because of an illness etc, it sounds like you've maybe got some food phobias or other issues surrounding eating that could be overcome with therapy.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

Nutritionists often help with people who eat unbalanced diets and who are at risk of things such as malnutrition.

There is a possibility that your doctor will refer you to a Psych first then on to be sure that first you are over/overcoming psychological issues before helping you to eat a balanced diet. =)

Thank you both for your responses, they've really made me think. I'd never considered before that the issues could be psychological and not physical.

I've been to a psychologist before for other phobias and didn't find it helpful (although this could have been the person spending the entire time essentially saying I was being stupid and to get over it) but has anybody else been through this that could suggest what I can expect if that does happen?

:)

I haven't been through it for this particular reason but I do know that if you aren't happy with the service that you are being provided then you have every right to complain and or ask for someone else to be treating you no matter what health service you are using. =)
