Needing urgent help for my disabled brother ASAP

Hello, I'm having a really big family issue right now and I am in need of some helpful advice and to just be listened to anonymously, I can't tell anyone I know.

My brother is schizophrenic and hasn't been taking his medication. Last friday he got really violent with my dad, pinning him down on the ground. I got scared and called 911. They told us they were going to take him to a mental rehab to evaluate him and they would most likely drop the charges (he was charged with domestic violence) and he can come home.

On saturday we visited the mental rehab, they wouldn't let us see him or talk to him and they told us that he was going to be put in jail and because it's on a weekend AND holiday, we can't drop the charges until they come back. We don't know what to do, we have called every # possible for help. He's mentally disabled and they want to put him in jail with some regular criminals, we don't want that.

What can we do?
Are they discriminating his rights?
All I want is for him to come home...

I'm sorry things are so bad right now. Are you in the UK/USA?

It does sound like he's been badly treated, but sometimes people who are mentally ill are held in police cells, as they're secure and mean they can be watched. It would be worth letting the police know that he's unmedicated and schizophrenic so that they can give him his own cell and make sure he's watched.

The weekend's over now (I'm not sure what holiday it is, we don't have any here) so hopefully he's back in the rehab/hospital. Have you been able to get him to see a professional or start taking his medciation again?

Thank you for listening. I'm in the US and this past weekend it was President's day so we had a long weekend (no work on Monday). He hasn't gone to jail yet; he's been held in the rehab hospital since Friday. He was expected to go to jail on Monday but my parents have managed to fight it off until now. We've only been able to stay in contact with him through phone calls that they allow him to do at certain times. It's been a real suspense and nerve-wracking time this week...Thankfully though he's being monitored so he's taking his medication. He doesn't remember anything that happened or atleast that's what he says, however today he told my mom that he wanted to kill himself, I don't know if it's just his medication not kicking in yet and so we've been told he's going to be staying there for a little while. All in all, it's gotten better, I mean we prefer him there than in a jail you know?

I don't know how to feel about this though. None of us actually, we all feel guilty. Me, because I called the police and got him into this mess; My mom because she didn't stop me; and my dad because he screamed at him and he thinks that maybe that's what triggered him to get violent. I don't know how to feel right now...I'm trying my best to console my mom (she's taking it really hard) but I just can't...ugh. I feel hollow inside you know? Everyone is on edge right now...
