SI Question - ER or not? *Contains a few details about cut*

I did it again. Now this cut is deeper than any I've made before, so I'm not sure whether or not to go get it checked. Should I get it checked? I don't want to unless it's absolutely necessary because my mom has her office at the hospital, so it's a bit risky going there.

if you believe that it is deep enough then you should go.

otherwise dress it propley and keep it clean.
what do you consider deep?

Ummm.... Bye.

I don't know what I consider deep. I guess it's just that my SI got worse than before and that freaked me out. Thanks for replying :)

im sorry to here that you felt you had to SI. ok well if it looks deep to the eye and it bleeds a far bit then i would see someone otherwise just dress it and keep it clean

A wound like the one you described should be closeable at home. If you check the first aid guide on here then it will tell you how to do it using either steri strips/butterfly stitches or plasters if you don't have either of the aforementioned available. If however, despite the width you can see yellow bubbly stuff inside it (fat) then it needs to be seen and evaluated by a doctor or trained medical professional.

Also wound measurements are not allowed to be posted on the forum. If you are ever in this situation again though then you can however PM one of the first aiders Animad (although she is not around much at the moment), Bitter_angel, or the wound care advisor, Jetforce. The first aid guide will also give you guidelines for when you need to get wounds assessed.

I'd suggest if you are still worried, pop to ER to get checked out, it can't hurt xx

Really a wound that width (so long as it isn't down to or past fat (which is yellow and bubbly) or has bled for longer than 10mins under direct pressure) should usually be fine to deal with yourself at home and the best thing to do is try and close it with butterfly stitches or steri-strips (which should be available from your local pharmacy or drug store (you may need to ask)). I would advise against using cutting up plasters (AKA bandaids) and using them as a replacement as they can pull the edges of the wound apart when removed.

I'd advise you to also read both the wound care guide and also the wound closure article as these should both help.

Also, feel free to PM me. I am trying to be around more at the moment and will reply to PMs whatever. KimB (Bitter_Angel) is less likely to be able to reply as, due to personal reasons, she can't be on RYL as much. Jeremy (Jetforce) is also a good person to PM but he can only be PM'd bout wounds.
