I was going to say "1000 pages?! She'll never manage it."
But no, I think she could do it easily. She just has to fill hundreds of pages describing the male love interest in adoring detail, and hundreds more describing the protagonist as being plain and average looking (and yet still somehow the sexiest f*cking mermaid in existence, as far as every single male character is concerned).
I know it seems like a lot of pages to fill, but these are mermaids we're talking about here. I'm expecting at least 100 pages detailing exactly how Meyermaids are different from traditional depictions of the damn things, right down to having six sparkling angel wings and a tail that can cure f*cking cancer, not to mention all sorts of randomly distributed psychic abilities and, in the case of the protagonist, an unstoppable ability to drag the entire world into orbit around herself.
*LIKE!*
See I cannot feel this, not matter how you try and in the real world, there's no goodbyes.

Shouldn't there be a little epilogue full of angst in there? Otherwise you might not have enough.

I actually love the Twilight Saga, and can't wait for these new books to come out. (If she does write them)
I admit I dont like her writing style, or the way she describes Vampires, but the story line itself. I love.
so you like the story, but not the way it's told?
Never run into that before. Interesting.

I am a writer myself (Probably not a very good one) And her writing style could be better. I like Vampires and have read several different versions of them. But the sparkling in the sun idea, I admit, is a little OTT. But the story and the romance itself I quite like.
I'm a writer myself. I also admit I'm not a great one, but I can humbly say I'm better than her.
I've written a vampire-based story. They're monsters in it, just like their supposed to be. Blood drinking, people killing, monsters.
None of this sparkling, vegetarian, living in the woods crap.

I'm with you, Feel Good. I've read some sexed-up vampire tales (Carmilla, anyone?) but this is a bit too much for me. I'd be interested in a well told mermaid story. I probably won't read this one, but maybe it will start a new trend, from which may emerge something worth pause.
Hope is still free and legal.

Reason: changed a wrong word
I wrote a mermaid-based story too.
In the wake of Twilight everyone started publishing vampire stories to try and cash in on the trend.
If this does go ahead we can probably expect a rash of mermaid tales to break out too.
I am horrified to think that if I get published one day my work may have been excepted because some publisher is merely riding the trend that Stephanie Meyer started.

I think vampire books are a permission trend. One person did it and succeeded, so now many people are writing stories they've wanted to read. Incidentally, I think that's also why so many are erotic-ish. That's why I tend to avoid the trend. I have no problems with erotica, but it's easy to write it badly.

I know thats true.
Fanfiction is a hobby of mine.

What is the appeal there? I'm not trying to troll, or anything; it's not meant to sound derisive. I'm genuinely curious. Fanfiction is not something I've ever dabbled in much, so I don't even know a lot about it.

for me it's a fun way to relax. No thoughts on character development, or real plot.
You get to make your favourite characters in a show you like do what you want them to do, say what you want and go through whatever you want to put them through. You can do anything and there are no limits as to how far and how ridiculous you can make it because it's nothing serious. it's just a bit of fun.
