I was walking along a street in the city (Aimee in Wonderland was with me so she can vouch for me lol) during a RYL meet once and a bird flew over my head and its feet touched my head and I screamed. Good to see your dad is okay.
Naah, birds are harmless. Hitchcock's film was sensationalism. The only time birds will pretend to attack you is when they're trying to defend their nests or their young.
At a certain place in Scotland where I fish for sea trout the Arctic and Common terns constantly dive at me to see me off their nest area. I hold a fishing rod upright above my head and they always dive short. I can't think of any British falcon or hawk that would seriously attack a human. But I once knew a man who was photographing Great Skuas (Bonxies) out on St Kilda and they made him duck once or twice.
I'm glad your dad is okay.
Where I live, we have these huge crows, they're terrifying. If you're walking down the street, and they happen to have a nest nearby, they show no mercy.
Well Mocha, I'm sorry you find crows terrifying. They're really not - they're highly intelligent and make very good pets (though they'll steal and hide bits of jewellery if you don't watch out).
Up in NW Scotland at our cottage we get more ravens than crows. They are very much bigger (huge by London standards) but only harmless scavengers. In the spring, as part of their courtship, the males will fold their wings at perhaps 300 feet, roll onto their backs and fall inverted for most of the way to the ground, then roll out again and say to the female "what a clever chap I am, you definitely need to be impregnated by me!"
I had a crow fly into the back of my head today. I was terrified until I made it inside, and it was all made worse by the fact that it flew into me while I was walking to therapy, so I was already kind of upset.
In scenes reminiscent of classic horror film The Birds, the buzzard has been swooping down and sinking its talons into joggers, cyclists and horse riders.
Is this anything to do with it? If not... IT'S SPREADING!!!
Sorry about your phobias, Mystery. Birds are part of the world around us. If you can hear, which sadly I no longer can, enjoy the gorgeous songs that they sing - albeit that they're staking out territory.
Watch a gigantic skein of perhaps 2,000 pinkfooted geese flighting back to their roost at dusk - they're magic. And don't ever be frightened of them ...
It's my sister's fault for letting her canary out of its cage to fly around the house and then it landing on me, with me screaming till she got it off lol. Although I am nice to them and slow down while driving to let them cross the road. You would think they would spread around my niceness to their friends.
