I'm not 100% sure what i want out of this thread...but here goes...
I've been talking to this 23 year old over the phone for the past 7 weeks - we met online....
anyway, he's lovely and i really like him, and we got onto talking about christmas presents...and he told me he bought me this crystal ornement that cost £180 :O
I don't quite know what to think of this???

Just my opinion but that seems quite a lot seeing as you've not known each other very long. How did you react when he told you what he got you? He might just be trying to impress you just a thought

Do you think he's just trying to impress you? And are you planning on meeting up with him? Maybe he was trying to see if you were getting him soemthing? Um sorry I dont really know what else to say

He sounds very keen. Maybe he makes a lot of money and doesn't consider £180 to be that much?
Or maybe he's lying and it's made out of plastic.
Either way I think it's a bit suspect.

yeah i have met him in person
tbh i did think he was just trying to impress me a bit but it didnt work
i tried to refuse the present but he said it was too late
i just feel a bit funny about it really...
we like each other but it's nothing serious
he does earn a lot of money though - and from what i can tell his family is quite well off
do i accept the gift?

He told me because i was guessing what it was, so we got onto the price range, i guessed a few smaller amounts and got onto £60 and he goes "triple it" - This is when i started to refuse it.
It's really thoughtful because he knows i've been after one for quite some time....but obviously can't afford it ..... I dunno =/

Do you feel comfortable accepting it? Only do so if you do.
There's a fine line between impressing someone and just overwhelming and freaking them out. & it seems like he's crossed it.
Maybe he has the amount of money to be able to make these gestures often but I think he needs to realise that you can't be bought

He's told me stories where he's been like this before....
this isn't quite as bad though :

He has taken some girl to New York before because he liked her, paid for EVERYTHING....

It doesn't really bother me that he's spent that much tbh, because like i said he does earn a lot of money - but i just don't know what he thinks he's achieveing....if that makes sense? x

Yeah it does make sense.
But maybe it's just his way of showing someone he likes them, just because he can. It doesn't mean he has a hold over you or anything though. Maybe that's what he thinks it means, I don't know. Maybe you should just ask.
