I thought I'd ask about something I'm thinking of getting done.
I'm thinking of getting my hips pierced. Seeing as they're basically surface piercings, does this mean that they reject eventually? Also are hip piercings meant to be for men? I don't want to get a piercing that wasn't invented for a female.
No such thing as a male or female piercing! Theyre really beautiful aesthetically. I know plenty of males with navel piercings, which are traditionally considered female piercings, and they look awesome on them!
They wont eventually reject but because theyre in an area of high movement, they are more prone to rejecting or migrating. High waisted jeans can be a pain in the ass for these piercings.
A lot of piercers argue whether or not dermal anchors/mircrodermals would heal better in that area. I think they would as the two piercings are in no way connected (less stress on them) and look identical. Have you considered mircodermals as an alternative??
Whatever you decide to do, good luck with the healing!
Gorgeous piercings. If you do decide to get them, keep us posted on the healing! Im contemplating getting either them or clavicle surface piercings but Im on the fence at the minute.. :P
i really wanna get my hips pierced but they dont pierce hips in dublin i dont think :(
Celestial ring eg. Wildcat are fab for surface piercings. They do more extreme mods as well. Excellent piercers! I love Kay. You have to be 18 - no compromise and you DEFINATELY need ID - very strict about age there.
The age limit differs for every piercing. Its usually around €60 for one surface piercing but they might give a discount if you get two done - Theyre fairly reasonable :)
Check out wildcat.ie under piercing faqs and check pricelist. I dont think they have surface piercings on there but it can give you an idea of prices and ages..
Awh gay :( If its something you reeeeelly want you should survive another year or two without it. I have had some piercings in mind for years and Ima still waiting until this birthday as Ill be 18! Itl make it even more worthwhile.
I tried changing my horseshoe I have in my tragus today. How do you exactly change it (well I know how) but I can never get it in the hole.
I think I hit the old hole that I had and blood started coming out and ugh I just had to give up.
It seems impossible to get the bar to go through even if I am lucky to get it in the back.
Let's put a smile on that face
We are not alone
Find out when your cover's blown
There'll be somebody there to break your fall
We are not alone
'Cause when you cut down to the bone
We're really not so different after all
Ermm... Surgical gloves/ latex gloves are a great help. Have the new jewellery prepared, dip the end in a tiny bit of lube like KY jelly (CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW IMPROTANT THIS IS!), and connect the end with the old jewellery. Then you can slide out the old jewellery, follow through with the new jewellery and you wont have lost connection!
I know, easier said than done :) If ya still cant manage it, ask your piercer to do it for you.
KY jelly is good as it is unscented, water based, and water soluble. Its sooo important to use it to prevent friction and discomfort, and it also helps to prevent damage to the healing fistula.
Im 16 and i want to get a industrial piercing in the summer before i go off to college, ive already got my lobes pierced and my mum was fine with it but i know that she will really have a massive go at me if i get an indrustial without her knowing, or even if i asked her opinion on them she would freak out
Maybe try telling her that you could always take it out if you wanted/needed too. That's what I did when my mum said that I could never get piercings while under her roof and it worked.
Also if you have long hair it's hideable, maybe it will help her to know that.
Serious question. What's the black goo in my earring holes?
It doesn't matter what I'm wearing (gold, silver, stainless steel, "this-is-less-than-0.05%-nickel-but-we-don't-know-whats-in-it") and it doesn't hurt so I dont think it's a reaction.
Hey. I have a question. I got my eyebrow piercing done a few days ago and I was just wondering whether how great the chances are of it getting rejected. Apparantly there was more "skin" for me to pierce so the chances aren't as high but I still want to know what I can do to prevent rejection or migration.
You tell me everything's all right
As though it's something you've been through
You think this torment is romantic
Well it's not, except to you

I'm not 100% sure, but it could just be a build up of dirt, how often to you clean you lobes and jewellery?

there is no way to know for sure, just don't put alot of stress on it as that can cause it to start rejecting, like changing the jewellery to often/soon and try not to knock it.

I have a feeling its just a build up of dirt, although, you mention that you wear silver. It could also just be a 'tarnish tattoo'.
To help get this dirt out, try regular sea salt soaks to loosen it up and that should help. Light massage could help to work the dirt out too but be gentle! Also, titanium may help with this issue.
Are your piercings stretched or are they regular earrings?

Baby the piercing and treat it very gently. Be careful when pulling clothing over your head as it may catch. Try not to sleep on that side of your face, dont play with the piercing and try to keep contact with the piercing to a minimum. Also, dont change the jewellery too much as this will aggravate the delicate healing tissue. You could change the balls on the end of the jewellery to smaller ones to prevent catching and potential rippage. Good luck and happy healing!

anyone got any advice?
I can definitely say there is usually a way to get parents to come around to allow you to be pierced.
1st: Documentation - Contact shops and find their age policies, as well as city/state laws involving age for body piercings. If it states people under the age of 18 can be pierced, that’s a fact you can point out to your parents.
2nd: School Work - Are you a straight A student or are there any subjects you’re slacking off in? If you aren’t doing well in certain classes why not work on bumping your grades up in those classes while maintaining the other classes. Most kids only have their school grades to fall back on, so that’s what the parents point out. If you have increased the grades in your classes, what can they possibly hold over your head?
3rd: House Work - Do you sit around all day everyday at the house and don’t contribute? A good way to get into their good graces is to start. Vacuum, Dust, Clean, Mop, Re-arrange furniture with them as it will get you into their good books that way.
4th: Maturity - When they shoot you down are you always causing a fuss and crying and screaming like an irrational person? Or do you come at them calmly and rationally and produce solid sound logical facts and questions? Often I find when parents act this way, they are the ones who are being the immature ones…I know I LOVE catching my parents acting less mature than I and I revel in that fact by pointing out questions that make me look like the one acting more mature then my parents.
Also with these things will often come a verbal agreement between parent and child that if they work on all these things, that they can get pierced. “Mom I promise that I will do 1-2-3-4 if you allow me to get pierced.”
And also finally there is the 5th option, getting your own part-time job. That is usually the BIGGEST resolution to the matter because the fact is usually its the parents money going towards kids piercing funds. So if they aren’t pleased with you getting pierced, why should they be spending their hard earned dollar on you getting piercings? Whereas if you get a part-time job and earn your own money, who are they to tell you how to spend your own money?
So definitely look into these things I suggested and perhaps sit down and rationally talk to your mother about the situation. Make sure you think about everything she might say and make sure you have a rational and logical retort to her statements. And hopefully that way you might manage to work together with your parent to obtain the piercing you desire.
