Triggering (SI) - Why is life so crappy?

I love being married. First, I have to say that.

But nothing but crap has happened since then. This latest bout? My husband was made redundant in december last year and hasn't found work. He applied for benefits (because he has no money and we're living off my student loan), and has been waiting for 7 weeks for news, and in that time my dog was put down and we've been told to leave our house.

We found a new place to live, but he got a letter today saying he isn't entitled to benefits. He's worked for the last 22 years for fucks sake! They say it's because of my student loan, but how can I support a family on my student loan which is already half-gone.

I've been nearly 6 months SI free and just want to hurt myself so bad. Maybe then they'll take some pity on us and fucking help us. I just hate life, it's not fair and it's just completely pointless even trying. All you ever get is crap in return, no matter how nice you are or how hard you work.

I would suggest speaking to CAB about this. They are familiar with the processes of housing, employment and financial advise.

For starters, you can appeal the claim that your bf is not entitled to benefits. Do either of you have job seekers or other income? Your student loan should not affect his ability to get support. For starters, it is designed to allow you to access education, not for you to pay to house and feed a familly, including your husband. I would check what criteria they are using.

I am not sure what benefit he has tried for, so can not provide more specific answers. CAB and an Advocacy service may be of help in this situation and once they know your personal situation can offer options and support.

He is going for job-seekers, and they are trying to prove that my loan should be used to support us as a family. He's being rather pig-headed about applying for his own job-seekers allowance which would disregard my loan completely, but I think the only way we'll be able to pay our rent and live will be for him to do a solo-claim.

We are going to the CAB and hope to get answer; it's just so frustrating that his whole life he's worked and paid his tax etc, and now he needs help, they wont give it to him without a bloody fight.

I am so sorry that you're going through this and it really is outrageous. How can they expect you to pay for all your and your husband's expenses with a student loan??
Neither of you deserves to be treated this way. Keep fighting and don't let them get to you - you're so much better than that!

xx

I think that for now at least he will have to clame in his own right. beyond that you rally need to go to speak to the CAB, they will be able to advise you, ans there are many different benefits they'll be able to find one you are elegable for I'm sure
