I thought similar to you and squirrelspit when I first saw this thread. It is quite a derogatory term.
So what if she wanted a trashy wedding,its her choice.
There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.

I'm not sure whether or not to cry. But £100,000 is a bit much. They could have bought a house for that.
I personally think that when picking a dress for your wedding, it should be something you will not be ashamed to show pictures of to your grandkids and their spouses in years to come.
Also, Mother Teresa's, erhm, clothing... I would have thought people change and mature with age, and start to realise what is and isn't appropriate and in what context
