Triggering (SI) - slip ups
trigger is just in case.
Basically if you've been counting the weeks/months/days you haven't cut (say two months.)
Do you count a slip up as a carrying on from 2 months or do you go back to beginning and start again?
For me as soon as i made that one cut its back to beginning. to start counting again
I'm not being nasty here and I would actually like some views as to why people carry on from where they left off through a slip up. (counting from 2 months free. then still going on from that date as 2 months +)
as to me 1 cut is self harm. And its back down to counting process
sorry if i haven't made this clear or if the end part is nasty it aint ment to be. :)

I do the same thing as you. If i was counting, I have to start back at one. I feel like im cheating myself. It might have something to do with myself trying to be a perfectionist. To make sure there is no flaws. I hate it when I am full of "flaws". So that might have something to do with it...
I really try not to count though, just have a general idea of how long its been because I find it takes the pressure off. When I have alot of pressure on myself and I slip, it makes me feel pretty bad about myself.
I am not sure why people continue on.. maybe it has something to do with its been so long since "trying to stop ?" No idea.. I am wondering this too!

thanks eyes.wide.open :)
Yeah i thought of it as cheating myself if i were to do it. I'm only a rough estimate of 2 months free atm with no cuts.

Because it's a slip up.
It's not a major 'im going to cut myself every day and night and stuff' like I used to.
I just ignore it.
Why make myself feel shitter when I've gone for so long and can probably keep going.

I'm apparently 5 months free atm. I had a slip up about 3 weeks ago. I remember doing it, I have the scars as proof, but I don't remember the exact date or time. I don't even remember how many weeks ago it was, it wasn't so influential on me. When each cut doesn't make such an impact on me, I count it as a slip and not anything more. I don't start counting again then.
If that made any sense whatsoever.

I start from the beginning, although the other way of regarding slip ups is quite interesting.

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.

I find that I manage longer when I don't count how long I've gone because it's less pressure and discourages me from focusing on SH which in turn lessens the likelihood of triggers.
Sorry if that was irrelevant but just thought I'd put my tuppence worth in
I agree that a little slip-up doesn't mean you've fallen back into the mindset of hurting yourself, it doesn't mean that you are no longer recovering.

I'm 3 1/2 months free and to be honest, the thought of going back to the beginning with counting is kinda scaring me out of slipping up
But I think if I slipped up just one time then I'd probably carry on from my original count
If I slipped up and fell straight into doing it regularly then I'd go back to the beginning and start again
