Hiya,

You can try bio oil or cocoa butter. Anything with Vitamin E should help as well. Also, you could try wearing sort of floaty long-sleeved tops that are both light and concealing. Bracelets and bangles can also go a long way and if all else fails you can put make up on them.

I'm sorry that your parents aren't being supportive / available but is there anyone else you can talk to (like a friend, GP, counsellor, priest, youth leader)? It's always a good idea to have someone you can confide in. I was 14 when I told my school counsellor and she didn't tell my parents at all. Maybe you could ask your school what their confidentiality policy is...?

Good luck! I hope that you find a solution to your scar problem.

xx

Bio-oil works really well to fade scars, though it does take a little while to make noticeable differences. Maybe make-up could help in the short term while any cream or oil you choose starts to work? Other than that you could try and find some light flow-y tops, like was mentioned above. A lot of people are very concerned with damaging their skin and getting burned so you could always use that as an excuse.

The rules are probably different where you are so I don't want to say anything that could hurt your situation. Your school might have a social worker or someone similar. At the children's hospital where I was first seen I'm pretty sure it's either 12 or 14 where you can start making decisions about your healthcare. At that hospital at least a child could put certain records in a "lock box" so that no one could see it (including parents) unless it directly related to an emergency ie. Doctor can request mental health records if the patient comes in under a suspected suicide attempt.

Getting help can sometimes be a lengthy process and sometimes it happens right away. Keep posting here and talking about your feelings. Talking about it might help you feel well enough that you don't need to cut. You'll make it through this :)

Bio-oil is expensive and won't work for everybody. Cocoa butter is cheaper, but again won't work for everybody. It depends on the type of scaring and how old they are etc. If the scars are particularly red or raised, you can get a teroid-based cream from your GP which you apply twice a day that will thin the scar/reduce the colour. If you don't want your GP to know, you could say that your 'issues' are in the past etc.

You could wear tubi-grip and say that you're suffering from Repetitive Strain Injury.

If you live in the UK, Primark sell long-sleeved thin tshirts which are really useful :)

Aslo, check out This Thread for more tips (:

This sounds really odd but the best thing I found to work is lemon juice - again may not work on everyone.

It's the ups and downs of living life this way. Promise me you'll never go away. Just stay with me through one more night because it's always darkest before the light and now I promise you I'll never turn away. I won't let you give us one less heart to break...

The tips people have been giving above is good. If you don't find something that works, you should try thinking optional clothing. Wearing big jumpers during summer time is usually not a good idea, as people might ask questions. What I usually do is I wear a thin T-shirt or a singlet, and I have a thin button-down shirt open over it. It's not too warm, and it doesn't look as "suspicious" as a big jumper might.

What I found have helped make my scars less visible is massaging them with vaseline or something similar. This might make raised scars go down a bit. Obviously you shouldn't do this until the wounds have healed.

Good luck!
