hi i have started taking a meal replacement three times a day instead of food and since i have started i have had diarrhoea really bad and a headache and feeling dizzy would this be because of the meal replacement? and is there anything i can do to stop it cause im not eating again until i have lost a certain amount of weight. do u think it will get better as my body becomes more used to it? thanks
I think it may well be the meal replacement. Is it liquid? If it is you are very likely to have diarrohea as if only liquid goes in....
Generally with meal replacements it is recommend that you only replace 2 meals a day and you still have a normal main meal - and it can still be low calorie if you are trying to lose weight. This should also help reduce ti diarrohea.
Another possibility could be lactose intolerance if you are using the milkshake type replacements, but until you come off an entirely liquid diet, it is hard to say really.
I wouldnt be surprised if it was because our bodies arent designed to only consume liquid meal replacements. If you want to lose weight, eat a healthy balanced diet combined with exercise. The weight is also much more likely to stay off. With crash dieting the weight tends to go back on as soon as you stop. Your GP can tell you more.
Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.
Are you being followed on this plan by a doctor?
It is an unhealthy and extreme way to go about things as your body does not get some of the nutrients and salts that it needs to run. You will also be getting more dehydrated so make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids.
Your body wont absorb the vitamins and minerals as well from meal replacements as it will from natural food sources. Also as you have diarrhoea it is passing through your body much quicker so you'll probably be absorbing even less.
Is it a milkshake type replacement? As someone above mentioned you could be intolerant, and dairy will tend to make diarrhoea worse even if you're not intolerant.
It may say that on the packet, but it dosnt.
Your body, really needs solids to digest as well as things like fruit and veg, protiens, carbs ect. Im pretty sure the replacement is not going to be as good as say eating your recommended amount of vegtables.
I would really advise you to consult your doctor first as if you have health problems that you are unaware of, using these replacements can agrivate them.
Is it that you can't eat or wont eat? If you genuinely CAN'T eat then phone the doctor's surgery back and ask for an emergency appointment; otherwise keep the appointment for next week and try to eat some solid food in the meantime. Good luck

First off, you can have an eating disorder at any weight. This is a very extreme diet, and it is very dangerous. I think you should go to your GP and discuss this, because you need to eat. This is a very dangerous path to go down, and no matter what your mind is telling you..you need to ignore it and eat. If you actually need to loose weight, as in, your doctor has said so..do it properly.
the best way to lose weight is to eat many regular sml meals a day...
I know you know that though so will not go on about it
please see you gp asap and eat solid foods before hand if you can
I know your fears but the simple fact is that skipping meals and only consuming food replacements.. it will not help your weight at all..

do you still have the diarrhoea? As fruit will not be the best thing for that! Try eating some good fibre foods and good quality protein to fill you up.
Also your body wont properly absorb the fat-soluble vitamins from your multi-vit unless you're eating something that has some fat in it at about the same time (this doesn't have to be bad fat, essential fats like omega 3 or 6 are good)
