Day of silence

I'm participating in the day of silence today. It supports gays, lesbians, transgender and bisexuals. I've been called a lesbian 7 times today. but oh well. I dont care. I'm not but It doesnt bother me if they think i am.everyone please support homosexuals and transgenders.

I don't need supporting

There's no "support the straight people" campaigns or whatever. It's expected that everyone's straight until proven otherwise. Which sucks.

I agree with the above about it perhaps being better to organise an awareness event. Surely being silent for a day only emphasises the relative 'silence' of the LGBT community anyway?

Well, I think you're wonderful, and I would do day of silence if I wasn't by myself all day anyway!

It's a brilliant campaign to raise awareness of the unspoken LGBT community. Think of all the people without a voice!

Oh, no, if you're not straight, why do you need support? Well how about all the beatings up, the discrimination? the people who think its immoral or unnatural? sure, fine, ill just leave ryl, i dont need support.

My friends and I all did the day for silence. and it's more of a show of willpower,and for alot of us to see just how many there are. Just because you aren't pat of the GLBT community doesn't mean you have to agree with us, but you don't have to disagree the only reason they need support is because they are denied equal rights and there is no logical reason why those rights shouldn't be allowed. they say the governement is severed from the church but 90% of those who oppose equal rights are bible bangers. OR other neurotic religion enthusiasts and that doesn't seem very fair. It's actually illegal in my state to have 'relations' with your partner not that it is enforced but the law does stand.

Isn't that dependant on which brand of christianity you subscribe to? And I'm sure there's some stuff in the bible that says homosexuality is wrong. (not that I'm homophobic or believe it's wrong, but there is an awful lot of things religious people use to say that God believes being homosexual is wrong)

What's being silent for a whole day going to do? More to the point, why do they need "supporting"? It's not a physical or mental illness or a disadvantage or something. Treating it like it is kinda defies the point?

I'm not homophobic, before I get flamed to hell and back. I'm just curious.

Personally, I think it might be a good idea to sort out the injustices and inequality within the LGBT 'community'.

Heidi Tiger - In a section about rules for a community of people, yes, it does say not to have sex with members of the same sex. once. it also says you can have as many concubines as you like, and not to eat pork or dance on the sabbath. In those days sex was for having children ONLY.

And Hammer Time - if we don't need support, why are there so many cases of people being bullied and hated to suicide? It can be a difficult thing.

I agree that LGBT might need extra support around their sexuality than straight people, including with things like, how to get support around "coming out" to homophobic parents etc. but I really don't see how a day of silence makes any logical sense. Presumably if people ask you why you're being silent, you won't be able to tell them?

I dont see why they need support either, yes your reasons are valid, but people face the same issues for thier skin colour, religion, your background ect, it isnt limited to the LGBT community, people face descrimintation for everything these days.

I'm a lesbian and I have been for several years. It took me several years to come to terms with who I was, but I never asked for support, because I don't need support for being me.

Maybe I'll just leave RYL too, because I don't ask for support about my sexuality?

EpicFailGirl - Sarah has a point, RYL isn't for supporting people with their sexuality. That's one of the first things I thought when you went off on your first rant and said about leaving RYL.
