How to get Psychiatric Help Print Getting psychiatric help can often be difficult and embarrassing but it is important to remember that all these people are here to help you and will listen with an open mind to whatever it is you need help with.

What happens if I go to the doctors? Print Going to the doctors is often very scary, especially if you are going to ask for help. But, you should always remember that the doctor is there to help you and they are professionals who should be able to understand your problem and should not judge you.
Subject3 - September 1, 2013 I'm 13 and have a doctors appointment in the near future. Depression, Known by my mum for a year now but she doesn't know I have been self harming for some months. How do I tell the doctor that, will my mom be with me as she asks me the questions, I don't want her to tell my mum. Scared..
KittyMarie - December 27, 2011 I going today in 1 hour and 26 mins... im terrified but i'll see how it goes...
StarLivi - September 23, 2011 To both KittyMarie and Sophie.x....You are allowed to see the doctor without your parents. If there is a way you can get transportation to your doctor by yourself, thats good because you can just tell your parents that you are going to a friends or to the mall or wherever that might have them believe you. Im 19 and I do that all the time. Also, if your parents end up going with you anyways, you can tell your doctor that you dont want them in there with you, and they should be told by the doctor to leave since you are an adult and its illegal for anyone to tell information if you are over a certain age. I know in Canada once you are 16 yrs old, you are treated like an adult at the doctors office and other community health centres.

littlebee - April 15, 2009 Hi Sophie,
No, it is illegal under the patient-doctor confidentiality act for any health professional to disclose any information about you, even if they are a family friend, so do not worry about this.
soccermonkey - January 1, 2009 Sophie.x they most likely will
Sophie.x - December 8, 2008 I'm only 15, if i go to the doctors and tell them about my self-harming, will they tell my parents???
