Stopped taking citalopram-sorry its a little long
Hey guys, I was put on citalopram at the end of last year, it made me feel better but I think it was just the fact that I was finally doing something about all this and that someone was finally listening and try to help me. After a while I realised I wasn't really feeling better at all and they began to have no effect on me at all. I went back to the doctor and told her and she just told me to keep taking it. I did for a bit but I just didn't wanna keep taking some medicine that was having no effect so I stopped taking it. I didn't have any side effects from this, I guess cos I was on the lowest dosage. The problem is I need help even more now, things are getting worse and worse and before the doctor was really only away of the depression and not how bad the anxiety was but its the anxiety that is so bad. I've always had sleep problems related to it and am going on holiday soon, which is gunna just make it a million times worse. I want to get some help for this because I really can't cope but if I go to the doctor I dunno what to say. Will she tell me off for stopping taking it? Will she actually do anything to help my anxiety and sleep problems? Shes told me before to try natural things and meditation and stuff but seeing as I can't remember a time in life I have'nt had this problem by now ive tried everything! I know its got a bit long and rambling but if anyone can give me their opinion/ advice id be very greatful :) x

I'm sorry hun I'm not sure I understand. You say you started taking the medication and started to feel better, then felt the medication wasn't helping, stopped taking it and now you feel worse?
Could it be that the medication was working hun? Medication can't make you feel 100% better hun, but it can take the edge of your problems away so that you can find the strength to work on the problems. It sounds to me (unless I'm taking what you've said wrong, I'm sorry if I have) that the medication was helping you hun, but perhaps not in the way you expected it to.
I'd say go back to your GP and explain how you feel. Perhaps print off this post and show it to her?
I hope you feel better soon hun

Hi, Thanks, I know it wasn't having much of an effet because I know I was feeling better from just doing something about it. I think I will go back and bring up the anxiety n sleep issues cos if I don't do anything my holiday will be hell! I was having counilling but I could only have a certain ammount and then had to go back on the waiting list. x

Don't let the fear of your GP telling you off put you off going back if you need more tablets. I had the same fear when i stopped taking fluexotine, but the doctor was really nice and just warned me off doing it again, and adjusted my dosage. Its worth going back and seeing what they say
