Initial Assessment

I've recieved a letter from the Community Mental Health Team saying i need to make an appointment for an Initial Screening Assessment. Can anyone tell me what an Initial Screening Assessment is and what it involves. I'm really nervous about it and the woman on the phone just said we'll talk through it when you get there, which i didn't find very helpful. Sorry this is probably obivious but the not knowing what is happening is really not helping with the nerves.

Can you ring again and ask what it involves?

It's most likely going to be finding out more about you and the reasons why you were referred to the CMHT.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

it is a meeting to see which would be the best way to help you and wat services you would benefit from
it is nothing to be worried about. you will just be asked questions about yourself and how you feel. be as honest as you can

As the others have said, it's just an assessment about who you are, how you're feeling, what you're experiencing etc. It's nothing to be frightened of, I know it sounds very scary but it's basically just trying to find out what they can do to help and support you.
Try and be as honest as you can, the more they know the more they can help you hun.
Take care and let us know how it goes yeah? Xxx

Let them know if you feel nervous on the day, i'm sure that they will do all that they can to make it as easy as possible for you. Good luck and take care.

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.

Hi ya.
they aren't too bad, just a lot of questions and stuff - in my experience- and it can be quite formal but go in there and just tell them honestly how things are.
try not to be too nervous, its not that scary x

OK, so I had my assessment today and I think it went ok.

The nurse talked about changing my medication and workshops on dealing with stress and anxiety. I've also got to go back and see the psychiatrist but i'm hoping thats not as serious as it sounds.

Anyway I'm feeling quietly confident now. Thanks everyone for you support.
