Tips for controlling drink?

Am I the only one who thinks the substance abuse forum is a bit dead & quiet? I thought it might be useful to make a thread for sharing tips on how to stay alcohol free and how to control your drink.

By giving advice on how to control alcohol consumption could be seen as tip sharing. Especially if you were giving tips to an underage drinker. I would just like to hear people’s opinions on whether the thread would be a good or bad idea. I know it would probably be useful but I didn’t want to break any rules.

I’m Not very sure if I phrased this properly, I hope im getting my point across.

I think its a good idea....the thing is, if someone has an alcohol problem, whatever their age they could benefit from the thread.x

In my opinion i think the thread isn't necessary - it's barely ever used (if at all).
Substance abuse of any kind are often part of someones mental health issues - which is why it's a sub-forum on the MH Board - but i think the sub-forum should be gotten rid of (or made into a "meds" section) and a thread made on the MH Board - not just for drinking, but for all kinds of drug addictions/solvent abuse/alcohol etc.

I try to check the substance abuse forum every day or two to support. But I can see how it would be more useful if it was available in another room

My husband is my best friend.

In forgiving others, we are not exonerating them. They may not deserve exoneration. Rather, in forgiving others we are giving up our anger over the fact that what happened is not what "should" have happened or that our life is not the way it "should" have been.

This. The Substance Abuse board is a little bit superfluous, and I think more people would benefit if substance-abuse threads were put where more people would see them, like (as you said) Mental Health, because Substance Abuse doesn't get many visitors. I've been abusing pills on and off for almost a year and for a while there I'd forgotten the board even existed.

I did mean "the board isn't necessary" not the thread, sorry!
But yes i did think the same as what Everybody's Grudge has said - that the board is so isolated that people don't even know it's there.

I would find a thread like that really helpful.

Perhaps given the evolution of ryl, extra forums added on v3, it has inadvertently made it just a bit redundant & unused. Which is sad but then I don't use it so can't say for sure, it has always seemed quite though.

I, personally, wouldn't benefit from it because I already know ways that I can control but just choose not to... However I do think other people really would benefit from it but maybe it'd be better to have it is an article on the main site?

I swear when I first got here there were far more people posting. Even just general questions about recreational use. I know quite alot about drugs, and I've had problems so I like to just check in there. I'd be sad to see it go.

I was just going to suggest an article on the main site.

Moved on. Take care.

I will agree with what a lot of people have said - an article sounds good. Do I leave it up to the mods to move it or do I have to do something ? *clueless*

... If the forum is quite quiet at the moment, why not use a thread like that to try and get more people in there? It seems silly to put a thread that is perfectly suited there, somewhere else, just because that forum is quiet. That's actually less constructive than putting it in there, anyway! Threads like that are brilliant, because it gets people in and involved.

I just really don't think avoidance helps anybody.

I've tried posting things on the SA boards before, but its been so quiet that it hasn't been of much use. I just get the impression that, whilst SA is linked to SI/SH in many ways, for many people its just something outside of what they've experienced, so they don't know how to respond to posts in this part of the board, or, simply don't look at it.
