Are we human? Or are we Dancer?

Am I bipolar?

I've been wondering if I could be bipolar. My mom says I probably am. My dad says I'm trying to be like all my friends for thinking that and I get mad at him for it and then KABOOM! another fight. So...going to a therapist right away is out of the question. I looked up the symptoms and I have most of them. Actually, all except the last. I'm worried that I'm going to have to go on medication. When I was on meds for ADD, I had issues with MAJOR depression and tics/tourette's symptoms. I'm afraid that will happen again so if I am. I need non-medication remedies. Help?
  • Feeling unusually “high” and optimistic OR extremely irritable- yes
  • Unrealistic, grandiose beliefs about one’s abilities or powers- hell, yes
  • Sleeping very little, but feeling extremely energetic- yep, I can never fall asleep
  • Talking so rapidly that others can’t keep up- Ever since I was a little girl
  • Racing thoughts; jumping quickly from one idea to the next- Yes
  • Highly distractible, unable to concentrate- I have ADD so naturally this would be going on
  • Impaired judgment and impulsiveness- Yes, I say things without thinking
  • Acting recklessly without thinking about the consequences- Yes
  • Delusions and hallucinations (in severe cases)- No

Those who dance are often considered insane by those who can't hear the music

I had a look at your age on your profile and it says you're 14. Doctors generally don't want to give out a bipolar diagnosis until closer to the age of 18, because so much could be due to hormones, etc.

We can't diagnose people here. The only people qualified to diagnose are professionals. If you are concerned, you might want to look into going to see one. Since your dad doesn't seem to be supportive of that, is there a counselor at school you could talk to, explaining you need help trying to find a professional?

I guess it's possible but really, you would need to see someone about it to get it properly diagnosed. Is there any chance you can see a doctor or see your therapist...sometime?

As others have said, we can't diagnose you here, we aren't profressionals.
Your best bet is to see someone, although like the first noter stated - because of your age it could be a number of things hormonal, they will be less reluctant to diagnose you yet until you're over the worst of puberty/hormone changes.

These symptoms can be synonymouse (same, I can't spell) with those of ADD. Your best option is to discuss it with a Psych or Dr.

Just wanted to echo what everyone has said above. Most of those could be due to ADD, so that's a good thing to remember. Best thing is to just talk to a professional and let them know what's going on. xx

You have to understand that Bipolar Disorder, if you have it. . . is not something that is cured. . . its with you for your whole life. You can't just do a little thing under your parents noses to make it go away. If its Bipolar. . . it will keep getting worse. . . mine did. . . it went on for five years before it was finally diagnosed. Dealing with it is really hard and something that is basically impossible to do on your own; I've been trying, and things just keep getting worse. With Bipolar, medication can help ease some of the symtoms while you learn how to deal with the ups and downs so you can better cope with them when they come. As of yet, I have never heard of someone who has been"cursed" in a way that makes it so there are no more ups and downs. . . unfortunately. . .

Hey. To be honest I wouldn't worry yourself that much yet, but I would go to see a doctor. Your symptoms could be due to something else altogether, and the only person who can really tell you what they are a cause of would be a doctor. I'd try a different approach with your dad. Tell him that you feel like something's up and while it may not be, you simply are asking to be taken to the doctor so you can get to the bottom of the way that you have been feeling. Best of luck. :)
