Risperidone and boobs *done before but argh!!

Okay, I know this has been mentioned before but euw! still didnt expect it!

so i've been taking it for 3wks and with my issues i dont always manage to convince myself to take it.... BUT last week, it was really painful, and i woke up from a nap an hour ago to find i had a wet patch on my t-shirt... i'm lactating!!! it's disgusting!!! I don't know how the hell i'm going to tell them, there's no way i'm continuing to take it, but it has helped me calm down enough to trust them a bit and i cant lose that right now!! grrr..... How the hell do you say... 'er excuse me, but these meds are giving me leaky boobs!!' its more annoying that i'm not even taking them correctly and i'm STILL experiencing it as a side effect!!!!

advice please, i'm seeing someone tomorrow so I should mention it then... but social anxiety + leaky boobs = extreeeeeeeeeeeeeme panic and i know i'm likely to go mute!

sorry for being so girly and boob talk...

I lactated also on Risperidone and it seems a common side effect. I just told my GP outright but i'm close to my GP (and he's male) so he just said to stop it because i was already about to come off it anyway and already on a very low dosage. But i was in agony (and cried with it) but it went after 6 weeks completely for me (but some people only have it for a few weeks - but then i know people who have suffered years because they find Risperidone helps so they just put up with it - i couldn't though!)

You should really mention it to your psychiatrist or GP - it's nothing embarrassing, it's completely normal in women when having babies! They need to know hun for future reference.

Goodluck xx

P.S. Try a hot water bottle on your breasts - helps loads with the pain.

If you're worried about going out in public because of leakage, I would stuff a little of something soft and absorbent in your bra, like cotton wool or tissues, or put padded wound dressings over your nipples. You definitely do need to tell them what's going on. There are other drugs you can try within the same class of drugs that might help just as much without the freaky side-effects.

You should really try and tell someone, even if you just mention you're having some weird side effects, they might catch on?!

I didn't tell anyone, I put up with it for almost a year because risperidone did actually help me and well, I was too embarrassed to say anything! It was never painful for me though, just an annoyance. I found wearing a padded bra worked if I was going out, but it was annoying having to wear one from the minute i got up until i went to bed!

My psychiatrist never knew, but she wanted to stop risperidone anyways because it made my periods stop so that was eventually how I came off it.

Good luck sweetie! :) x
