General Medical Question - Urgent - Citalopram...

I've just started on Citalopram... this morning...

What side effects can i expect??

I feel like a defective model, like I came off the assembly line flat-out f***ed and my parents should have taken me back for repairs before the warranty ran out. Instead they didn't notice, and now i'm stuck like this.

Hi hun, I'm on that too, have been on it for 3 weeks now. I just get a little drowsy and find it hard to get to sleep, but it varies from person to person. They should come with a little leaflet with a list of side effects hun. x

As silvermist said there should be an information leaflet. some of the side effects are sleepiness, weight changes, dry mouth (which I got but it passed). It will vary from person to person, try not to worry about the side-effects too much unless they are really bothering you.

Don't let it worry you hun. By law they have to list every possible side effect you could get from them, but it doesn't mean you'll get them. Just try not to dwell on the side effects too much as the mind is very powerful and can trick your body into thinking it's getting them when in actual fact its all physcological. x

He said pretty soon for side effects, i took first dose at 9.

and to feel better about two weeks...

At 12 i started to get tired, yawning, but that wore off, then since 2 i havent been able to keep still, like twitching my leg, or clicking my pen etc...

I'm not too worried to be honest... more so about mood swings etc ... but twitching and stuff i can deal with

Okay. My dr told me it takes around 7-10 days for Citralopram to work but when I saw a physciatrist today, he told me it's actually about 5-6 weeks. So just thought I'd let you know if in 2 weeks you still aren't feeling any better then that's why and give them a few more weeks to work properly. I was a bit worried about the side effects too incase of moodswings, but they are generally okay in my opinion. I'm also fidgeting a lot, so maybe that's something to do with it but not too sure!
Hope you're ok hun, sorry if this post seems a little annoying, just thought I'd let you know incase they haven't started working for you in 2 weeks. <3

Give them a couple of week sto kick in properly before you notice any difference. Also don't worry about the twitching, from your post you sound lke you have been worrying about this for the past couple of hour and the twitching could just be your anxiety showing itself.

Hope they help you

if i think this is the same drug my sister was on it or is on it
she couldnt sleep couldnt eat and went really weird ,i dont think it agreed with her at all
they reduced it now and now shes taking something else with it
but she was drinking very heavily on it which would explain a lot the doc said but it took a while for the drug to work on her at first she said
she had no twitching though

I was on them for a few years (though I'm sure it's just a short term drug, could be wrong though?) I never had any problems with them... =]

When I was on it, I had insomnia, loss of sex drive/sensitivity, dry mouth, shakes and dizzyness (if I missed a dose). Oh, and it kind of cut off the top (happy) end of my emotions as well as the bottom (depressed) end.

There's like a million threads on citalopram, if you do a search on this forum. Might be helpful to you to sift through some of them.

You should take any new SSRI for at least 4-6 weeks to give it time to work. If by then you feel no improvement, then it's not working and you need to try either a higher dosage or another medication. But you may not feel the full effect of an antidepressant for up to 6 months.

When i took Citalopram my main side effects were feeling drowsy not long after taking it, but when it came to sleeping a slight struggle with actually falling asleep, it varies from person to person and as Plastic Rose pointed out make sure you atleast try it for 4-6 weeks.

I get restless legs when I started it and doses are upped.
It improved but I still get restless. Which is rather annoying.

It is differant for everyone and for me it has really helped me, more than any other med, and I've tried an awful lot.
