Here is the wound care guide which will hopefully help you determine whether you do need treatment. I would always say that if you are in any doubt that it would be a good idea to get it checked out. If you are in the UK calling NHS Direct would be a good idea as there are trained nurses who can speak to you, and will be able to help you more.

Take care.

I ccan;t seem to find it... will keep loking.. but as a general quick bit of ruling:

when need stitches?
If it bleeds for over 10mins under direct pressure (if it bleeds through the layer closest to the wound then DON’T remove it, just add another layer on top).
Or if it's gaping more than around 1cm in fact if it's gaping at all if near a joint/on an area where the skin is stretched a lot
Or if it is into the fat (looks yellow and bubbly)

Why to get a cut stitched?
To increase the speed that it heals, To reduce healing times To reduce scarring To reduce long-term damage if the cut is deep To reduce any loss of mobility of a joint due to scar tissue if it is close to one

I'll keep looking for the proper link.
