I am currently:
Triggering (ED) - Can they do this?

Just wondered if there was anyone here who knows more about section 117's and stuff than me who might know if this sounds possible.
I spent almost a year IP on an eating disorders unit (the last few weeks on an acute ward when my funding ran out) and was discharged a couple of months ago. I was on a section 3 for 6 months in the middle of my admission but was discharged as an informal patient. I discovered when I got out that I am now on a section 117 because everyone who's been on a section 3 at any time during their admission is put on one when they are discharged.
Anyway, I've been struggling quite a lot with sticking to my meal plan and I've lost a fair amount of weight since I got home. Although I guess this is a little concerning, I'm not restricting to a dangerous level and am not really engaging in any significant purging behaviours, and my BMI is still within the healthy limits so I don't think my health is really at risk in the short term.
But I saw my ED nurse this morning and she told me that as soon as my BMI drops below the healthy range, she's having my psych put me back on a section 3 and sending me back to the acute ward.
My understanding of the Mental Health Act is that you can only section someone if they are an immediate danger to themselves or others, and with a BMI just short of what they consider healthy and whilst I'm not engaging in dangerous purging/compensatory behaviours, I can't see that I'm an immediate risk. I don't know whether she's bluffing or if my status under section 117 makes it easier for them to get me back into hospital if they feel that I am relapsing.

Sorry that was long and rambling, but would really appreciate people's opinions as I'm really scared of having to go back into hospital and I don't know if I'm worrying over nothing.

Thanks.

I think that if your not managing at home and your seen to be deteriating then they can recall you back to hospital. Is your section over or you still on it?

i'm tired of chasing my dreams.
i'm just gonna ask where they're going,
and hook up with them later.

My section 3 ran out in October last year and I stayed on informally until the end of February. I'm on the section 117 now and I think that remains until they decide that I don't need to be on it anymore.

Thanks for your reply, *hugs*

I honestly have no idea, as I live in the US, but it doesn't seem fair or right to me. I hope everything turns out well for you. xxx

yeah they can do that. Ive been on a section 3 for an ed before and everyone who has been will be given a 117 aftercare package basically stating what will happen should you get ill again. Generally they're put in place because of your previous 'history' as you're viewed as high risk having had to be admitted before. It is different for each individula but basically it is tailored to 'catch you before you fall' type thing, regardless of whether ure in immediate danger. A section 2 is usually used with life/death situations, but 3 is more to do with treatment if that makes sense.

I was on a section three and was never put on 117. Weird.

But I think the fact you're already on a 117 will make it easier for them to bring you back in to hospital.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

Thanks for the responses guys.
I'm hoping that she's bluffing as I can't think of anything that would be more detrimental to my recovery than being locked up on the ward she was talking about again. They don't have the staff or the resources to actually offer any treatment, like most acute wards they're only really there to keep people safe in the short term, and I don't really feel that this is necessary at the moment.
It seems ridiculous that she could justify a section 3 so early on in a relapse. I mean, things aren't brilliant right now, but I really thought I was managing to keep my head above water.

Will have to keep really trying to get it under control and try to maintain my weight.

Thanks again,
