I have CAT thearpy after no treatment and lack of faith in the NHS, Some work on a sliding scale basis. I pay £15 for an hour session. Look into the therapist rep and also look in your local MIND centre some do differant thearpies on a low sliding scale basis by wokring with a speacilist theaprist who is willing to do sessions on this basis. Look around alot at the differant thearpies, thearpists and prices around before making a decesion. And remember if your not happy with them you just stop going and paying and look elsewhere. Look on the net too and Look at the leaflets in your local MIND centre too.
My private thearpy has been really helpful so far, I feel I can trust her more as she's not working for the NHS and thier failing targets. You need to make a comintment to working in thearpy or if you don't put the effort in it it won't work. Think about what you want from it when deciding on which thearpy is suitable for you.
Good luck sweetie, tell us how it goes

i saw a psych privately a couple of times and i liked him, he listened to what i said and generally asked all the right questions. i also saw a DBT therapist privately for a year who i really got on with. but that can happen in the NHS too, finding someone you get on with so i'm nto sure that's a good reason to abandon their services. one advantage is that private people tend to have mroe time for you 'cause they're not overstretched. i think if your mum can afford it it's worth a go, it doesn't have to be permanent.

I've had a private DBT therapist but she charged £60 odd per hour. It was funded by the NHS, so look into that.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

i have CAT with the NHS and i cant complain at all. my psych is fab and the other bloke i saw for the assessment dr paul moran who is the main man there and they were lovely.made me feel more normal.
so with regards to therapy such as cbt/cat i think alot of it depends on the therapist, certainly for me. so why not look into private treatment as a back up but see what the nhs say first and see how you get on with the therapist there??
good luck xx
