Therapist preferences.

Well basically, I was talking to my dad's girlfriend about therapy, and mentioned something my therapist said, and she was really shocked and like "they shouldn't say these things, they should be more caring", well, something along those lines...
Anyway, I'm curious as to how everyone else likes their therapist to act/be personality wise.
And if it depends on the disorder perhaps...
Because I like them to be quite straight-talking/businesslike but still a bit caring, and reliable.
And I've had a lot of different styles of therapist (Well obviously everyone's different!) and i know other people who have seen the same therapists as me and really liked them and their 'style', whereas i have hated them, but the other people have had problems like depression, bipolar, and i have bpd.
Please reply and help ease my curiosity :P

Should've said something but I've said it enough.

hmm i don't know how to describe my therapist really. i get on with her. blue is bad and purple is good, you'll get the jist:
  • what i don't like about her is the way i can never get her to agree with me and the Voice.
  • what i do like about her is that she'll let me talk about anything, including the Voice, without looking at me like i'm crazy.
  • what i don't like is that once she told my mum i'd ODed.
  • what i do like is when there's something wrong she finds out what it is.
  • i like that she doesn't mind leaving long pauses at the beginning of each session while i collect myself, or talking about rubbish for the whole thing because that's all i'm able to do that day.
  • i like that when i ask her a straight question she gives me a straight answer.
  • i don't like her insistance that she's not judging me, because i know she is.
  • i don't like that i don't feel able to talk about Christian stuff to her.
  • i like that she rarely cancels appointments and always tells me a couple of weeks before when she's away or can't make an appointment.
  • i like that she doesn't correct me all the time (as in "are you sure that wasn't impulsive?" or "do you really think that?").
  • i don't like the way she asks me if i'm ok at the end
  • ...but i like how she warns me 5 minutes before so i can put all my thoughts back.
and, for your interest, my current diagnosis is " ? psychotic depression " though in the past i've been just plain old depression, dysthemia and ED NOS

Well I don't have a therapist, though I have a mental health nurse who I have sorta therapy with. =/

I like that I can talk about anything and she doesn't act differently.
I like that she agrees with me on certain things I feel very strongly about.
I like that she can understand the 'extent' of my problems.
I like that she doesn't think I'm attention seeking.
I like that she doesn't think I'm lying about anything.
I like that she knows how much 'things' mean to me.

I don't like that sometimes she defends other people when I know they're in the wrong.
I don't like that most of the time she is either late, or is ill for appointments.
I don't like

Urm, that's about it at the moment. (: xo.

my therapist is pretty straight talking and i like that. she's not afraid to voice her opinions on things and tells me when im being stupid. she doesnt pity me but sympathises with a lot of stuff i say, not in a patronising way though. she sometimes swears too which always cracks me up and she's willing to try unauthodox stuff with me even when it goes against what she believes.

saying that i have an amazing therapist who i have seen for a long time and knows me inside out now. she's always pretty high up in her field and really knows what she's doing. so i guess i'm pretty lucky.

i say as long as it works for you it doesnt matter if its not the usual way of doing things.

I like that he will actually ask me what i think of things.. (like if i've od'd or.. im unsafe.. if i think i should go to hospital')
I like that he will just talk about normal stuff , to help me calm down if im a mess about talking about 'serious' stuff
I like that he doesn't think im odd even tho some of the stuff i've done and
I like that he's still nice to me even though im a complete bi*ch half of the time. (i know thats his job but still)

I dont like.. that even things that are confidential get told to my mum.
I dont like (and this isn't being 'racist' or anything.. that i cant understand what hes saying half of the time because of his accent)(entirely not his fault)
I dont like how everything is a big deal..

I like how he never gave up on me when all the others did.
