Yesterday an American girl came up to me and explained it was her and her friends last day in Dublin and they'd like a picture with me. I thought maybe it was because of all the hard work I do that I never get any credit for..
Oh no, it's because I supposedly look like this:
I assume it's a good thing that I'm the most Irish person they could find in the capital of Ireland and that I could become a living tourist attraction. But it's the second time it's happened and I haven't gotten any money out of it yet.
Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her;
If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cry "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!"

I love being Irish but not LOOKING Irish. It helps me avoid irritating situations like this.
Seriously though... when we look at each other we see normal-looking people. When foreigners look at us, do they see leprechauns? Bono's? Giant pints of Guiness? Or do we just have a certain Irish "look"?
Irish people with dark hair are much more common than Irish people with ginger hair, although you do still see the stereotypical red-haired, green eyed, freckled Irish lad/lass every so often.
I'm "black Irish" and proud: Dark brown hair, dark blue eyes, and not a single freckle.
Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her;
If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cry "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!"
