No i hate being called Maff. Everyone calls me Matt. I prefer Matthew but peeps just instantly call me Matt.

I am now thinking that you are a former government ministry (Agriculture, Foods and Fisheries) that was renamed after the BSE thing and it's remit was subtly changed to include the sale of food and the consumer end as opposed to just the production side. Subtle, but it allowed a change of the name which had been assosciated with a massive screw up that left people losing their minds and dying.

Ministry for Agriculture Fisheries and Food in the UK was replaced by DEFRA (Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) after MAFF's image/name got thoroughly worked over with the BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy aka Mad Cow Disease) crisis in the UK because MAFF were just that incompetant. And then they screwed up Foot and Mouth as well, which was the cherry on the icing on the cake.
The justification for the renaming was that MAFF did not deal with the consumer side of food, whilst DEFRA would. And adding this subtle change meant a whole new name and rebranding exercise.
Technically, MAFF merged with part of DETR (Department of Environment, Transport and Regions), leaving DEFRA and DoT (Department of Transport).
Does it make more sense now?
