Wound Care - Kinda...cut my finger. *Graphic!*

Well...this is slightly embarrassing. When fiddling around with "certain sharp objects", I slipped and cut across my index finger, on the side at the top, fairly deep. There is a bit of a chunky flap of skin there now and it's started throbbing. It bled for a while but I managed to slow it after a few minutes.

What's the best thing I can do for it now?

(Sorry if this is a waste of time and I'm not spose to post this here, I'm just a complete worryer and keep imagining myself losing my finger...which is of course rather silly as it's only a cut ...doh!)

The best thing to do would be to get it looked at really. Its likley to take a long time to heal, and there fore the risk of infection is quite high.

In the mean time, put the flap back into the right place and if you have any steri strips use them to hold it there. The finger should be kpet clean and dry. Apply a dressing over it.

Take care

Okay, I've put the flap back and put some anti-septic cream on it and put a dressing on it. Hope it doesn't get infected!

Thanks for your help =)

could take a while to heal with the positioning, moves and opens everytime you wiggle your finger. if it gets red, swollen, hot or itchy, both the wound and surrounding area, go see your gp, because it could be infected. mand x
