Longer time length for CAT?
I'm on about my 13th session of CAT thearpy due on friday. I know most CAT sessions will last between 16-24, I know already 24 isn't going to be enough to work through some of my complex problems. (Had DBT for 10months and it wasn't long enough). I am paying privatley and don't really want to pay more money if the most I can have is 24, as I feel opening up is pointless as 24 is no where near enough; however I have heard CAT is set and timed to 16-24.
Has anyone had experiance or heard of CAT being used for much longer time lengths/scales?

Hey,
Sorry I don't know the answer to your question, but if 24 isn't enough could you possibly ask for more? xx

When you talk to her just say that you're scared it won't be enough time to sort out your problems and feel better if you had more, if she says no then keep explaining to her that need more in order to get better or wait until your last one then see how you feel you might be shocked that you've got everything sorted and didn't anymore then that. Though I'm sure she won't say no if you feel the need to have more than 24. :P x

I'm guessing CAT is similar to ECT?

^^ CAT (cognitive analytic therapy) is a talking therapy.
I think that this is something that you should definitely raise with your therapist, she will be able to see what progress you have been making and if you'd benefit from more sessions. A lot of the structured talking therapies have time frames but they can be changed for each individual. I had CBT for longer than the usual time frame. I hope something can be sorted for you. Good luck and take care.

hey,
i have just started CAT and was told 16-24 sessions only. they said if this doesnt work then pyschodynamic therapy would be tried which i believe is an 18month program but works different to CAT in that, the therapist does not form a relationship with you and you are the one that has to come up with the ideas yourself rather than the team effort between u and psych in CAT
but that was just what i was told. i think from what i understand CAT length times were negotiable as they have a limit for a reason....but im only guessing
good luck, make sure you ask them tho.....remember you still have another 11 sessions if you have 24 :)
