Taking old medication
Righhhhht, So my mum was put on blood thickning injections, but we have just found out they are a YEAR out of date
My question is, is it harmful to take out-of-date medication?, would it still have the original effect it was supposed to? and would it have any ill effects?

Umm not too sure on this one but there must be a reason behind the "Expiry date" She might feel ill or have an headache.
I suggest she gets herself to the doctor! It may not work properly as it's not in date.. Or may cause further problems; But i really would suggest getting your mum off to the doctors for a check up.
And getting a new supply.
Take care.

Shes going into hospital tomorrow anyway, but its just how they can be so stupid to give her something out of date.
Human error caused her to nearly die once.
but gah you can see why im annoyed

I understand why you're annoyed. And maybe scared, too.
This is something, however, that your mum needs to discuss with her doctors.

Who ever gave her the medication should have checked the date and batch numbers before giving it.
I would advise not to use them if they are past there dates, as it can have effects on the way the medication functions within the body. Also, I asume it is to be injected into the muscle, which means that it will be a slow relase so once it is injected you cant really stop it from functioning.
If she is due a dose now, you should ring the hospital or whoever prescribed it and ask their advice incase they want to give you a new prescription.
