Children at meets part 2!

Hi everyone,
So I know theres another thread about this issue, but Ive made this thread specifically so we can all have a vote about children at meets and I will bring it to the mods attention and if its big percentage towards no/only at maternity meets then I will see if it can be put into the rules so that it can be more clear in the future, if you choose other please give a suggestion!
Thanks.xx

I think people should only be bringing their kids to Maternity meets. I don't care how old they are.

It's not only unfair but unreasonable to assume that all people attending a meet are okay with children being present - even if they don't speak up. Plus, where do you join the line? Is it okay for babies to go but not toddlers, or toddlers but not pre-school children, or pre-school children but not primary school children? What about what kind of meets? For example, London meets normally end up in the pub.

And people DO talk about self harm AND make jokes about it (as well as talking about sex and other subjects that aren't appropriate for children to listen to).

If people want to meet up with RYLers with their children they should either go to a maternity meet or arrange it privately.

Maternity meets defiantly.

Because some of the members are ill & what if some of them have issues that could end up hurting the child, that wold not be fair.

& that doesn't make much sense. I know what i mean.

i'd say case by case basis...

Me for one is not fussed if i child turns up and we all said once we didn't mind a child at the meet I think if the majority say they don't mind AND the person bringing the kid desperately can't get a babysitter I think they should be allowed to bring the kidliwink along if arranged before hand and prefably for the kid to be under 10

But how do you know if they dont mind?If everyone else says theyre fine with it, a lot of people would feel uncomfortable speaking up and saying no. And if the majority say its fine, does that mean the other person who is a member of this site, cant attend because someone wants to bring their child? I think thats very unfair personally!
If you cant get a babysitter then surely you just dont come to the meet. Also why 10?Children under that age are more likely to get distressed about seeing scars etc then a 10 year old.

Maternity meet only. (but i would like that to mean maternity AND parents meet, as maternity to me just means little 'uns, not much older than 2)

Otherwise, you could have all the problems of setting an age limit at general meets. Also, i really don't think RYL meets are the place for children, no matter how 'used to' MH they may or may not be. It's not fair on anyone involved. The difference with maternity meets is that people sign up knowing its a specific meet you coudl bring kids too, and would behave accordingly. 'normal' meets have a greater potential to get out of hand.

Maternity meets only.

I don't mind children but sometimes I really don't wanna be around kids and if everyone else at the meet had said it was fine I wouldn't feel able to speak out as I wouldn't want the parent to feel bad and also it could cause tension between me and other members. And the fact that I think a meet really isn't the place for a young child. Meets (especially ones where over 18's attend) end up in the pub alot of the time and there is often some talk of sex and drugs and rock'n'roll!! I just don't think meets are the place for young kids like Liv said no matter how much they are used to MH/SH stuff.

I went for the "Maternity Meets only" one because, although I've never been to a meet, I can imagine that they're not the best place for a child and, besides, it's unfair on the other people because not everyone likes kids.

Either find a babysitter or don't go, I say.

Maternity and/or parents meets. Or not at all.

As others have said, some children might end up being hurt or distressed, they might be out of hand, we don't know. And if you're going to this specific type of meet, at least you know for sure that kids will be there. I don't know, it's complicated.

Moved on. Take care.

it hink having parents meets is a good idea, as long as they were made specifically as parents meets.
i think for general meets, no kids.

I would not go if there was a kid going to be present. I just don't like them. I would be comfortable enough to say that I'm not happy with it and would probably pull out because of it, but some people might just grin and bare it. And is that really fair on them?
