I was having some flashback issues last night about the times I've been detained under the mental health act in the police station & i remember once a police officer saying if I didn't calm down (I was bouncing myself off the walls & screaming my throat raw) he'd get a straight jacket.
Obviously I didn't get put in a straight jacket for other reasons. As something else happened, but can they still do that?
I've been sedated in hospital but never a straight jacket.
Hm. I dont think they can do that anymore. I've certainly never seen them being used, and I've seen a lot of really ill people being restrained and sedated.
I think putting someone in isolation/ICU is kind of the modern equivalent to a straight jacket.
Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.
it is a jacket that you get tied into. your arms are in sleeves that cross around your stomach and have straps to tie at the back, so you can't use your arms to hurt yourself or anyone else.
i don't believe that type of restraint is used anymore.
I was completely on my own in a police cell, so granted i couldn't hurt anyone else & i still wonder why i wasn't taken to hospital, but thats for another story.
I wonder why he said it then? Scare me into submission possibly.
they dont have straight jackets , but they can use other restraints like strapping your legs together and stuff .
also in hospital and in jail they used to have something called strips. which they still use in prisons but they cant use them in hospitals.
When ever i've been in a cell, I always had to have an officer in there with me. No straight jacket, just physcial restraint - I dont think they even use any sedation injections at police stations as they are not doctors and the fact they need you to be alert for questioning etc.
yeah,straight jackets arent used anymore.
tends to be restraining and injections now if you cant/wont calm down/relax/are going to/are hurting yourself.
some secure units have rooms that they use if nothing else is working after youve been injected......
police wise they can use straps to ,well, strap your legs together, and keep you cuffed....
The Mental Health Act 1983 (I have a copy of it on my computer) states that things like straitjackets aren't used any more and shouldn't be used.
However when I was sectioned by the police, I refused to go to hospital, so they handcuffed me and tied my legs together with velcro straps. So they can tie you up, but not with a straitjacket; I think he was trying to take the piss. Bastard.
PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.
I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.
Yer i was told by a nurse that straight jackets dont exsist anymore but the police have straped my ankles and knees together and handcuffed me and then carried me around when i was not cooperating. The police cant inject you either but if you are taken to a police suit at a MHhospital then the staff their can sedate you.
From what I have heard straight jackets aren't in use anymore. At police stations they have restraint chairs that they can strap you to, but that's about all I've heard of. But that's what police do instead of letting somebody calm down.
The police can be real bastards. But no straitjackets.
