Hi Shelley, Ive been on Temazepam as PRN (as needed) for a year. It been very helpful to me to have as an option when I am getting sleep deprived, stressed and anxious.

I take 20mg, but I will soon be having 10mg and seeing if that is enough to get me to sleep. It does work, but you need to relax and let it work, do things that calm you before bedtime as a routine if you can and hopefully you wont need to use it so much.

That brings me onto my next point, its highly addictive, so use it with caution, never take it longer than prescribed. I find that if I take it 3 nights in a row I have trouble sleeping without it for a couple of nights after that.

It can physically disable you a lot in terms of muscle control and co-ordination, so make sure your in bed very soon (10mins max) after taking it. I have often taken it, forgotten, stayed up a bit longer, then when I go to get up I fall over.

If there is any other specific questions, just ask.

Marie xx

I've been on it before.

Basically, dont use it unless absolutely necessary. It's highly addictive, but also if you use it continuously (night after night) very soon it loses it's efficacy (stops working) and you need higher and higher doses to get anything from it. It's only supposed to be a short term measure.

In the long term you should look at getting into a good sleep hygiene routine. Don't do anything such as go on the computer right before you want to sleep or your brain will be too active.

Try having a bath with some lavendar oil or something and unwind. Have a hot milky drink just before going to bed. Having clean sheets on your bed can help, too. You could read a few pages of a book as you are lying in bed, that always makes me sleepy.

When you try to sleep, if you are awake after about 45 minutes, get up but do something really boring, like ironing or washing up. Don't stick the tv on. Doing something monotonous should make you feel tired, do that for fifteen minutes then get back into bed.

Also, perhaps discuss other medications with your doctor. Antidepressants such as mirtazapine and trazodone are very sedating (am on both) and often prescribed to people with depression and insomnia, and I always get a full nights sleep. They are non addictive, too.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

I have nothing else to add, Control Freak and Surprising Mystery have given you excellent advice. I have found this the most effective drug for sleep but also the most physically addictive (as in when I was taking it every night it wore off).

I take 20mg a night. I take it everynight. As Dr knows how quickly my depression and mode worsens if I am not sleeping good.

I reckon I am addicted. I haven't tried to sleep that often without it. On the times I do I am in and out of sleep, disturbed sleep.

I have been on various sleeping meds over the years. So far this is one that gets me to sleep and keeps me asleep

Try not to take it every night. And only for as long as suggested. If you find it hard the next day try taking a lower dose. Talk to Dr about it.

i'm tired of chasing my dreams.
i'm just gonna ask where they're going,
and hook up with them later.

We've been on temaz before and it has done nothing at all.
We sleep when we take imovane or zopiclone though.
Sorry to hear you fell flat on your face, but glad you slept!
