i don't want pills, i dont want to go ask the doctor for help, also im terifed of going to the doctors all my experiances with doctors have been bad and i dont like them too much. plus knowing me i will play down everything say that its all ok, i always do that. its like i can't stop the act even when i want to, there is only one person in the world who sees me when i stop acting everyone else gets happy/ok me.
i dont know if i want the AD's and i dont know how to stop myself acting like its all ok. any advise or support would be helpful. my apiontment is 9:20 tomorrow eppp.
sorry if this is the wrong place im never sure about these things.
hi, i understand about the telling them your ok thing. i find it incredibly hard to be honest about how i feel. i write things down ahead of time and just hand it to them.
i've been on a few AD's and the weight gain for me wasnt too bad, untill i got put on mood stabilizers for bipolar. if you say that the weight gain is an issue, and explain that you used to have problems with it, they should pick one where the weight gain is more minimal then the others.
other side effects i had was shaking, and my memory getting worse, then on the mood stablizers i sleep too much.
they are definately worth it if they can improve your situation.
they can take a couple weeks to start working, but if you are unhappy with them or the side effects you can just go discuss it with a doc and they should look into changing them for you.
good luck!
You need to decide if you want to take the tablets or not. It might be worth talking it over with your doctor tomorrow, but you have to be honest with how you feel so they can prescribe the right medication for you.
To be honest, most of the SSRIs (things like prozac, citalopram etc) have minimal side effects and are pretty weight neutral, and these tend to be the drugs doctors prescribe first.
It's only when you get to the more heavy duty psychiatric medications that side effects and weight gain start to become more problematic.
Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.
Hey, I've been on various AD's over the years, and even different types, and weight gain has never been an issue for me with them, that is the one side effect I haven't had. It's a big issue for me too because I currently struggle with an ED, and to be honest, alot of the ones I've had have actually caused me to lose weight. But every person is different, some side effects I've had may not effect you. I was recently told not to look at the leaflet that comes with the AD's at the side effects part because it's basically taken from when they test the AD's and every single symptom that a person reported has to be written there, so alot of them may be unlikely to happen to you etc.
The side effect I get mostly, is nausea, but to be honest, I'm not sure if it's because of just the AD's or if it was other things playing into it too. I've also experienced, loss of appetite, shakiness, increased anxiety, tiredness, inability to sleep, but it really does depend on the person. You may go on one and not have any side effects. My most recent one was like this, it caused tiredness for 2 or 3 days but no other side effects at all from it :)
Don't be put off by the side effects though because for most people the positive effects they can have outweigh the few side effects, and side effects for me only usually last around a week or so when I've first started taking them.
the doctor put me on citalopram 20mg which is a SSRI. in the end my friend did most of the talking about anything sesitive. she was really nice though, she was to put me cognitive therapy rather than couciling. anyway i think it went ok im just so relived ts out of the way tbh it was really stressing me out. i haven't been to my leatures or seminars all week :( i have to go tomorrow
Well done for going hun. I've been on those AD's twice now, the first time they worked really well and hardly any side effects that I can remember. Those AD's were the ones that worked longest for me. I hope they work for you too. Well done on getting the cognitive therapy too, I'm seeing a psychologist at the moment, and it's helping me more than my counselling did last year, even though that did help with some things, the therapy I'm getting now is more intensive, but it is helping so I hope you get that soon and that works also :)
thanks Amy, im gald its working so well for you i hope its the same for me. guess i will have to give it a few day and see how i feel. im back for a check up friday of next week then they decide about thearapy.
