Birth Control Depression Question

Hey. Haven't been on in a looong time...but anyway...

I had the cutting under control (as in I didn't do anything for a good 5 months) and was pretty happy. But then I went on orth-tricyclen lo for birth control...and it started whacking me out with crazy mood swings. I think that's more under control now....but I feel like it's still making me feel low and giving me bad urges sometimes. I don't know if I'm unjustly blaming the pills though. I don't technically need them anymore...but I'm afraid of going off them and breaking out and becoming irregular period-wise (shallow, I know). Anyone else had any experience with this? Any ideas/tips? Thanks!

As you want advice based on other members experiences of this I feel it will be better suited to General Support and Advice and so I will move it there.

If you want it moving back for whatever reason feel free to contact the forum mods about it either by Post Report/ moderators@recoveryourlife.com / PM

I haven't got much useful to say except maybe it would be worth talking it through with your doctor and see what they can suggest.
Take care

I didn't have those specific side effects when I was taking ortho tricylen lo, but I felt nauseous every morning for like... the first two months. Not particularly fun.

I'd talk to a doctor about it. Maybe you can just change birth control medications instead of having to stop taking it all together.

That is quite, quite possible. I was in a reasonably normal phase and Femodene made me constantly tearful, suicidal and very destructive, and I couldn't figure why until I changed pills for different reasons (it was about a week or so afterwards that everything suddenly felt better). Also generally when birth control pills come up in girly conversations, most people seem to know at least one person who had mood effects from them. Sometimes it takes swapping a couple of times to find a good one for you.

Is ortho-triclen a "mini-pill"? If not, you might want to try asking for Yasmin as a replacement as that's supposedly a fairly new pill with less side-effects than most. It made me nauseous for the first month or two, but was absolutely fine after that.

Ive been on MicroGynon for about 5 years now, with no apparent side affects. My doctor asked me last time i visited if it might be something to do with the pill i'm on, because my moods fluctuate an awful lot.

Why would it do it after 5 years though ?

I was on Cerazette and it gave me awful mood swings for the first few months. Talk it over with your GP.

As others have said, talk it over with your GP.
There are other options they could make you aware of like the injection and all that jazz.
When i came off the pill my periods just went straight back to normal so unless yours are really irregular normally there probably wouldnt be a problem. And if there was, you could always go back on it again.
Take care
