Initially it's quite complex and you have to learn a lot of skills, but it's worth doing if you want to get better.

I did DBT when I was 14 with my mother and a group of other teens with their parents. control freak is right, there is a lot to learn and you may not understand it all at first but if the facilitators are any good they will help answer any questions you have.
Unfortunately, half way through my mother got us kicked out so I never got the full benefit of it.

it is hard but after a while the skills, you get more used to them and it's easier to use them and they help more. it's worth doing if it'd offered, i think. i had difficulty eith it at the time but now use the skills all the time.

It will be intense and definatly hard work, but because of the hard work you need to put in, the benefits can be great. Do some research on the therapy and ask questions whenever you can. Its known to be the best treatment for borderline PD, but I believe that to only be true if you are completing an outpatient programme. Results are not clear when DBT is delivered inpatient, as the type and dynamics of the unit are also cruicial to recovery.

Keep in mind that it does not work on everyone.

For me, it made me worse. I do not know if that was because the style was not for me or because the therapist was a bit of a jerk.

DBT is different to alot of other therapies as it is more about accepting that you find thing difficult rather than trying to cure it but teaching you ways of dealing with things so that the quality of life can be better.
You normally have an individual therapist who you will probably see once a week and with them you will go over diary cards that you have to fill out every day and talk about any issues that are specific to you and a weekly group meeting where you learn the skills and go over situaions where you could apply them. There is also a phone support line.
I've been in DBT for over a year now and it has actually saved my life (melodramatic i know, but true).
It's about as hard as you make it really. It can be tough and there has been so many times when i just thought 'i cannot be bothered with this' and like any therapy, it can be hard to put it to use but it is definitely worth a go.
Sorry about the rambling but if you've got any questions feel free to PM me and i'll try and help you out.
xx
