I'm going to CAMHs, I don't know when. But anyway I was telling my mum that I feel really depressed...and she said I'm self obsessed! What do I do?

Well....do you really want to pursue making her understand? I don't really feel my parents ever understood and I gave up trying to make them. Personally at this point I would probably just leave the whole issue.

If you're comfortable to continue to discuss it with her, you could maybe provide some factual information on depression.

I suppose. I just want to make sure I get help. Because last time I first went to CAMHs she told them I was fine :-S

i have never spoken to my mum about any of my pproblems mainly cos she was my prblem!! so prob not best to give advice but you will have a camhs appt and they will hopefully help you to get better and understand that you arent self obsessed and are reaching out for the help you need.

if you want your mum to know, maybe you could write her a letter and explain how you feel and then put at the end maybe something like...i would like your support and am happy to answer your questions but i am going to get help cos i know i need it.

Thanks hun. I might just leave it...I think CAMHs will give me help anyway because one of my teachers has written in about my OCD so they will deffo look into that...I think if it carries on then I will just explain it to her...I don't think she will take the OCD very well...

I went to CAMHS in Antrim for a few months. They are nice there. I was there for an eating disorder however and I am due back on the 11th for mental health assessment with a phys.
They try to understand, and they mean well but sometimes they just dont get it.

Thanks, that's another thing CAMHs never did, I haven't seen them for about 7 months and they havn't even done a check up with me.

i hope that seeing cahms goes well. i ended up just giving a load of "facts" to my mom, just gave her print outs off the internet, highlighted what was appropriate to me. i dont think she understands it, but she cant deny that its real.

I think thats what got my mum ^^^ She was so determined to prove that it was all made up, that she just made it all worse in not even attempting to understand. They dont like to believe in anything that could corrupt their young child's mind. I gave up aswell in the end, im letting her figure it out in her own time. At some point you run out of head space,
But I wish you the best and i hope that CAMHs will help you as much as you deserve it, x
