one 'rule' here which isn't official is that, as long as you abide by the other rules, and are not unkind to another person, you never need to feel guilty about posting!
ok, i'm afraid i just added to your view count without being helpful, cus i wanted to go away and find another similar thread that came up recently, in the hope that some of the replies there could help you too.

i think overshopping is an easy trap to get into as it feels good to get things and bad to be lacking things... even if those two don't quite match up ('i lack emotional warmth, but i have a gorgeous log fire') it is easy to pretend they do.
you say that ypu think you could cut down, but not stop. well i think that is ok; almost everyone has to do some shopping, so its not like its ever an addiction that could be given up on totally.
if you're like me then as soon as you get home you lose interest in the shiney new purchases that you had to have.. well is there any way you can take them back, or sell them on ebay? perhaps you can rule a line under things, and say from now on when ever you buy something new (that is not a essential - though i know thats hard to define) you have to get rid of something, and if you take back last week's jeans to fund this week's then that can slow your actual spending.
is money the main problem? perhaps you could aclimatise yourself to 'budget shops', or to charity shops which can carry great stuff including good labels but for a lot less money.
