Triggering (SI/OD) - Mental Health Hospital Addmission
hi I had to see a psychiatrist today and Iam really really worried because things are really tough for me at the moment. I have started hearing voices which i have found really really scary. because this has never happend to me before.. when we were talking i got into a real state, and she said when I see you next week iam considering admiting you.Because I have been cutting nearly every day and have been taking alot of Overdoses, aswell and this is why she is thinking about admitting me. I think she didnt actualy say why she was thinking of admitting me but I guess that's why. And the thought of this is really scaring me. and I was just wondering weather anyone has had any experience of being admitted to a psychiatric ward. and what should I expect? to Be honest its scaring me really really badly. Can any one please help put my mind at rest.
Thanks

Hi,
I'm in hospital at the moment so I can talk to you about it if you want depends what you want to know really. I guess for me it keeps me safe and stops me from sh so much and pretty much stops me overdosing because I don't have access to anything and I'm not allowed off the ward on my own. Pm me if you want x

Hi hun! You'll have to bear with me I'm writing this on my blackberry so it may take a while lol! I have been in a psychiatric ward and its not nearly as bad as you think! I was as scared as you are about it! I was a bit homesick at first but then really used the place to get better! Which is what its there for... I think if your psychiatrist refers you to a hosp then it would help keep you safe! Which is a good thing! :) anyway I'm rambling I hope you're okay hun pm me if you need to! XX

just another voice to say that hospitals are not like hell without the air conditioning.
it can be frustrating and boring to have to be in one, but it is also safe, and there are always people there to talk through things with.

Hi
I did get your pm but I'm on my phone ATM and can't seem to reply to pms so I'll reply here if that's ok.
Being restrained isn't nice but I've only ever seen it happen when people are being very aggressive and can't be controlled any other way. They always try talking to you first and tbh I hardly ever hear the alarms go off. They have gone off once Since I've been here and that was me trying to get off the ward. If you are calm And talk to the staff they will be the same with you.
A typical day is meds, mealtimes and some activities but this seems to vary so if you do go in i'd take things to keep you occupied. There is a tv lounge here but I don't really go in there.
I guess if you are struggling with the voices they will look at your meds and they are more likely to give you prn in hospital which can really help when things are bad.
Let us know what happens and don't be scared they are there to take care of you

Ive been in hospital, and I was scared at first. They are there to protect you from yourself. You soon settle in.
They give out your meds at the right time. Plus where I was I could have my Hubby come and visit everyday. Towards the end of my Stay I was allowed out for home visits before being discharged.
They take care of you and they got me into a good routine. They are on your side.
Good luck, Im thinking about you
Let us know what happens
