peoples experience of olanzapine

Hi Guys!!!

Well i am on that lovely med called Olanzapine and have gradually had my dose increased over the past 3 years.

Although i get quite a few of the side effects, like weight gain and a bit of a tremor, my psychiatrist has convinced meto continue taking it as it helps me greatly.

So this got me thinking and wondering about other peoples experiences of olanzapine...

so anyone feel free to share!!

I was on it when i was in hospital for PRN then i gt put on it regularly but it didnt work for me. Glad its wroking fo ryou thouigh xx

hi, i was on it for a while, unfortunatley it didnt work for me, and the weight gain for me personally was a huge issue and i hated it, i gained over a stone in like 3 weeks. yuck!
but i'm so glad its working for you, its nice when you find a drug that does the job for you!

Hey, I was on this for a while. It was the first anti psychotci that I tried. At first i took 10mg and it really helped. I had to stop it though as it gave me side effects (i had weird feelings in my face, like muscle twicthes) I then went onto Quetiapine which didnt help. So I went back on Olanzaping, it didnt't help like befoew however, so we increased the dose to 15mg. It helped, i pretty much got most of my symptomas at bay, at least i think i did.

I was only on it for four days, so I can't say if it did anything really!

I wrongly thought it was causing my anxiety so I stopped taking it.

I took it for about 6 months and after having deciding that it wasn't doing anything for me, I stopped taking it. The only really bad side effect I got was weight gain (I gained just over 10kgs!).

I'm currently on it, and have been for about 2 years. The side effects aren't as bad as the symptoms I'd have if I didn't take it, so I see it as the lesser of two evils really. I do have to manage my weight but I have a history of an ed so that's not too bad. I do find when I run out of it for a few days between prescriptions I throw up water and can't eat, totally have no appetite. But such is life, at least I can sleep now.
