U.S. Medical Insurance Question

Hey. Any of you Americans out there know exactly how deep an insurance company can delve into your records to find out information about you? I'm trying to get personal med insurance, but they're dead set on not letting me have any because at one point I mentioned the word "bipolar" (which was a really bad idea) to another insurance company and was rejected. All I said was that I had been on a medication for a few months and when asked what it was for I told them "bipolar II", but that I was no longer taking medication or asking for treatment. I'm trying really hard not to need a psychologist and not to need any meds, because I just want insurance in case I get appendicitis or something like that so I don't have to owe 30,000 dollars. Stupid insurance.
I guess my question is if I withhold information from them how far will they go to get it? It's like the friggin gestapo with their questions.

Hope all of you are doing well. xoxoxoxo

I don't know how it is in the US but I know here in the UK when there are ad's for medical insurance some say they don't ask any past info at all; though in the US as the system is MUCH more widely used here when we don't really need it then they may not do they same thing.

Insurance companies don't like to pay out money, that's how they make money. So if you lie, they will take your premium and then probably not pay out when you need it.

I'm afraid it has to be honesty as best policy.

Surely you aren't uninsurable just because of bipolar?

If you're up for getting angry at the US health-care system, rent/watch the movie "Sicko". How far they go when you withhold information depends largely on the insurance company. Some of them are really amazing, others, not so much.

However, I think that they can deny coverage and maybe even sue you for fraud for withholding info.

Maybe try looking into your state based Medicade program? If you're within certain financial criteria, you qualify, regardless of your previous conditions.

I'm sorry... I fail at RYL...
