Phyciatrist
I've asked my mum if can go and see a phyciatrist but she seems dead set against it. She refuses to see how depressed i am, she thinks its just a "phase" and that im just upset by a boy or something. But its really no the case. How can show her i really need help?

Last Cut: January 4th Last Purge: January 16th

You can go to your GP and if they think you need it, they can refer you to a counsellor, psychologist or psychiatrist (whatever they think is best). Tell your GP that your mum wont let you go and maybe he/she can speak with your mum about it. If you have depression and your mother refuses to let you have treatment, that's just wrong.

what miss-ruby said. the GP can tell you your opetions, and although some treatments might need parental consent i *think* most don't. you'll probably be referred to CAMHS and they'd be keen to get your mum on side best they can.

How old are you hun? In the law, there is something called "Gillick competence" - sorry to bore you but law is my job. You can be treated without parent's consent from age of 12 if it is clear that you understand the implications of the condition and treatment. However, it may be different with mental health issues. Those peeps on the board who have had dealings with camhs will be better placed to advise you but even they seem to have differing experiences.

i would agree with everyone else, go to your GP and find out what your options are, and take it from there, your GP could speak to your mom for you if you wanted i'm sure.
i dont know how i got my mom to take me seriously, i think it took her a few years to realise that it wasnt just "teenage" problems. i think it just took a while for her to accept it, she wanted it to be teenage problems. however your mom shouldnt stop you from getting help.
best of luck, and i'm sorry that its so tough.

I agree with the others who have already responded- go to your GP on your own to discuss the whole situation (both about possible illness and also your mum not wanting you to get professional help). They should be able to give you advice about where to go for help/what to do etc.
Another option (if you're at school/college?) is to see the counsellor/nurse based there. I did this as my mum initially refused to let me see a therapist locally, so I went to the school counsellor as my school had a complete confidentiality policy so my parents would not be told if I saw the counsellor for as long as I went.
Better option is the GP though, as they can offer a much wider range of treatment options, e.g. the in-house counsellor/nurse, referral to CAMHS/CMHT.
Don't worry about your mum not being so co-operative at the moment. As I said, my mum reacted the same as yours did, forcing me to cancel the counselling appointment I'd made. But now she has a much greater understanding of my mental health problems and that I am ill, not going through a "phase".
Good luck with getting some help.

good luck!! everyone's already said what I've had to say, so I guess I'll just say I've been there and it sucks. Sometimes they just don't want to believe it. But, sooner or later they'll have to face the truth. Good luck honey, and we're all with you!!
