Ok, the appointment isn't for a couple of weeks as the referral only went through on tuesday. But I'm feeling really apprehensive about it. Don't know why really, I guess it's just the idea of seeing a "shrink" if you know what I mean. Plus in my mind I'm like, "things aren't bad enough for me to have to see a psychiatrist".
I'm also in two minds as to whether or not I'm going to go because I haven't really given my consent to it. My GP has been suggesting it for a while and I have always refused, but the last time I saw her she was like "I'm going to have to refer you, I don't have a choice". And neither do I it would seem. I understand why, she needs to cover her back so to speak and I'm not angry with her.
I don't know, I just genuinely feel as though I don't need to see a psychiatrist. I mean, I'm much better now than I was a couple of months back. I haven't cut for about a month, and although I have my moments where I mess about with my meds I haven't done anything major since November. My mood has been a little more stable and I've also finally been allocated a care worker (although that did take a letter of complaint and a stay in hospital due to a bad OD!).
Urgh, I don't know why I'm so reluctant to go, I mean he's only going to want to help me and will be able to sort out my meds better than my GP can (she is stepping into foreign territory as I am now on two different AD's). I'm just a little scared I guess.
I could just do with some encouragement and re-assurance really. Also, I wouldbe grateful if anyone could tell me what usually happens during the first appointment. Any other advice or whatever would be great. And sorry this is sooo bloody long!!
Psychiatrists aren't that bad. Some of them can be quite awesome actually! During the first appointment, they usually ask questions about your concerns or symptoms, and get to know you a bit.
Don't think in terms of "things aren't bad enough for me to see a psych". It can't hurt to have some extra help, yeah?
I really hope things go well, and my pm box is always open if you want to talk.
i think it is a good thing hun...is this cos you werent getting on with tamsin?
you will have an assessment with them first to see if they can offer you therapy so if they think it isnt going to help you then will discuss why it isnt/is for you etc.
i had my assess last tue and the week before had been the best for a very very long time and they still felt that what i told them need therapy. but they did ask if i was willing to commit to the therapy so you do get a choice!! :)
hun, altho things may have been good for a little while which is great but things did get pretty bad and you fought to get help for the cmht so you must have thought you needed it. unfortunately altho things get better and seem fine you still need to work through what caused the bad stuff so you dont get the same thing a few weeks/months/years down the line.
trust me, i though things were going well and 2009 and was going to be better and it was for like a wk and now i have dropped far far lower than i have been for a very long time and i dont want you to crash down again!!
its gotta be better than tamsin??
you know where i am hun if you need me, altho even tho we live in the same country our awake times dont really see to overlap very much :) xx
this pic is so i can always remember jen who was my l'il sock monkey friend who has left ryl and i miss her!!!
i think it's a good idea to see the psychiatirst, if your GP thinks it's for the best, maybe they can help better than she. and if they suggest soemthing you don't like, you can say so. and it might mean that you have more suport in place for when you need it, even though you don't think you really need it at the moment. good luck with it, anyway.
Yeah I guess seeing a psychiatrist can't be that bad. It's just that it's something that I've always been opposed to doing, must have something to do with the stigma attatched to seeing one I suppose.
I probably will go, at the end of the day what have I got to lose? I think a lot of it has to do with me being stubborn because I haven't actually given my consent to the referral. I just keep on thinking, f*ck it, I'm not going. But then I think that the consequences of that could potentially be pretty bad. I've been told that I am on the verge having to go into hospital as an IP as I am currently in a "crisis" apparently. So I guess I should go really.
I think that I just have to admit to myself that things aren't hunky dory and if I need the help of a psychiatrist then so be it. I'm not happy about it, but I guess I'll just have to accept it.
And Holly, ANYTHING is better than Tamsin lol!! Thank f*ck I don't have to see her anymore, I'm better off being with no support rather than wasting my time with her!
