Triggering (SI) - In front of people
I attend a day hospital and I was in the day room during lunch and there was this guy with his penknife out doing what I would called self harm. No-one else seemed bothered by it, but it triggered me so much and I had a panic attack after I left the room. What should I do about this, should I tell the nurses that he brings a knife with him and that it could be triggering for people.

I think you should tell a nurse that he's got a knife and that you think he may be cutting himself. But I don't think the reason should be that people may find it triggering....that's not the reason the nurses should be informed. It's just not appropriate for him to be sitting in the day room doing this and for them to be blind to it.
On another note is it a big blade? Because we have laws regarding the carrying of knives in public. I'm presuming that it's small though because you stated it was a penknife and usually they're pretty small...but it's a thought to keep in mind if it looks longer than 3 inches.

How are you feeling after this incident, sweetheart?
I think it would be a good idea to mention this to a nurse, even if just to say that it upset you and made you very panicky. There might be something that can be done, though I'm not entirely sure. Good luck, lovely.

yeh i think you should def tell someone cos if it is a day hospital surely you are going to try and feel safe etc not be triggered by someone bringing something like that!
i dont get triggered particular about people talking about sh but if i see a potential tool whatever it maybe, if i could use it to do some kind of damage then i get very triggered!

Definitely tell the nurses. A knife is dangerous for anyone who is in a hospital to have.
Also, you definitely do not deserve to be triggered at a place you are going to for help.
