Triggering (Suicide) - Next steps
I have chronic major depression and for the past 6 or so years I have been trying all that I can think of to sort myself out. For the last 3 months I have felt more suicidal that I ever have but I am holding off and reaching out for support because of course I don't want to die, I am just feeling very desperate.
I have no idea if therapy is even doing anything for me any more, my psychologist has said that she thinks we can work through my OCD but with everything else it is seeming hopeless. During my last couple of sessions she has said to me that some of my beliefs are too deep to be challenged by logic, that she thinks I need more social time but doesn't know if i'll get anything from it, and that she doesn't know where we go from here. When I was 16 I was told that I was beyond help, perhaps I should have listened then.
I have seen many different therapists and have been on 7 antidepressants and 1 tranquiliser with no success. My GP keeps putting me on different antidepressants because I think she doesn't know what else to do. I'm thinking of asking her about Lithium augmentation or even ECT. Has anyone had any experience of these treatments? My psychiatrist discharged me about 5 months because I was off medication and had a job but said to get back in touch if I needed to. I'm not sure if I should and what if anything she could do for me. The role of a consultant psychiatrist is something that I don't actually understand. When I saw her before she wasn't much help but i'm thinking that maybe my problems are getting beyond what my GP understands.
Might it be a good idea for me to get back in touch with my psychiatrist and see what she suggests? Can she do anything different from what my psychologist and GP are already doing? It hurts so much to feel like I might be like this forever or even that I have to keep struggling to change.

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.

I think it would be good idea to talk to the psychiatrist again. As something is clearly not working. Could you maybe ask for your GP and therapist get together with you and review things?

i'm tired of chasing my dreams.
i'm just gonna ask where they're going,
and hook up with them later.

I'd say go back to the psych - GPs aren't specialists, plus, if she knows you from before she might have better insight
but I'm sorry it's so hard at the moment... you say you got a job? that's a great acheivement, so don't put yourself down

If your psychologist is out of ideas mabey you should try a different one? On saying that however I know how hard it is to have to open up to a complete stranger on all over again. I changed psychologist twice before I found one that actually understands me and with her I'm starting to get better. I really hope that whatever you do you look after yourself. xxx p.s if you ever want to talk or just let out all your feelings I have a blog at www.reach4themoon.tk where I can post any thoughts or advice you might want to share.

Noone is beyond help.
I'd get back in touch with the Consultant Psych. They're very good at sorting meds.

I have had ECT and am on Lithium. You should talk to your dr tho. ECT worked brilliantly for me once have had two courses of it.
Yes it helped but six weeks later i was right back to where i started. Lithium works well for me.
What has helped you in the past? You said that you were discharged because you were working and off medication. How did you achieve that?

I've never had ECT, but I'm currently on Lithium and have been since I was 15/16 (now 19) (expect when I stopped it alot). Lithium really helps me to stablise my mood, particually mania( I have Bipolar disorder), however I'm also on a anti-depressant. I have heard of lithium treatment being used with depression when anti-depressant have failed.
Have you looked at CAT, DBT(this one is mainly for BPD treatment) theapry to work on your deep rooted beliefs? I have experianced a year of DBT in hospital and I am now paying privatly for CAT (At a reduced rate). PM for any questions
So defentialy talk to your doctor.

Nothing much to say other than yes you should and I understand the hurt. To have fought for 6 years must mean you are incredibly strong. You might as well try seeing the psych as there might be something different to try.
