I'm kind of embarassed to post this, but I'm just curious if anyone else does this:
I know that it's normal to sometimes rehearse conversations in your head that you may be nervous about having, or replay them after the fact...but on a fairly regular basis, I find myself imagining situations as if I am actually there...and usually I act how I wish I could be in real life - confident, witty, smart, things like that. Sometimes I actually have conversations with people outloud as if they are in my apartment with me, or I "talk" to my therapist in what would be an ideal session - where I don't hold anything back, am insightful, etc.
I hope this makes sense, and I hope this doesn't sound too creepy or weird...Thoughts?
I think if it's bothering you, and you feel it's not "right", then it's worth at least mentioning it to your therapist. You can explore why you do it, and how you can reduce doing this and gaining some confidence.
Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.
I do this all the time!
In fact if its for a phone call I write down what I want the conversation to be first.
Last night I was replaying an argument I had with my Mum's partner, but I was saying different things and so was he, I got really upset over it and sort of forgot it didn't really happen like that, so you're certainly not alone with tihs.
I have been known to do this. Perhaps you can try to limit yourself on the amount you do it? Good idea to bring it up with your therapist though, perhaps print your post off an take ti with you.
I do this all the time! I go over things that have already happened, especially if it was a situation that didn't play out so well and replay it lots of different ways in my head see how it could have gone better! I don't tend to plan things in advance though, which is maybe why I spend so long reassessing everything!!
I know thats not exactly much help, but yeah, you're not the only person who does it!
Don't be worried about your post or what you've said your certianly not the only one to do it. I often talk to myself as if i was talking to another person in the room but i think it's because it can be a comfort to feel like someone is there to talk to or to have a chance in some way to replay a situation and say the things you wouldn't have the courage to so you can at least get them off your chest x
I do this so much. Sometimes i get so into it i forget that its in my head not the actual real situation and get lost in it all with all the real emotions and stuff. I kinda think how far i go is a bit wierd but idk.
x
'Cause I'll always remember you the same.
Oh eyes like wild flowers within demons of change ♥

No, I don't think that's weird at all. In fact, I can relate; sometimes, I think I imagine that there is more substance to certain relationships because, in my head, I "hang out" with certain people more and we discuss what needs to be discussed to bring us closer...Also, there's a particular guy I've been adoring for about 3 years, and I've sort of made up this notion in my head that we're dating (in my head), and that he really wants to be with me...I do this with friendships too, sometimes...So I expect different/better reactions from people when I see them in public, because I secretly wish/hope things would pan out like they do in my thoughts.
Thanks for the replies; It's nice to know I'm not the only one. Sometimes I wonder if it's because I live alone and am lonely?
i do this constantly. either on past situations that didnt go how i wanted them to, or things that havnt happened but i think about them alot. i think in my case its because i cant think on the spot- my mind goes blank. so if i rehearse a situation i will know what to say when it eventually happens ?!?
i can relate so much.i didn't know that someone else was doing this!

Wow, I though I was the only one who did this! Good to know I'm not alone. Even though I've never brought it up with my therapist, I think it's a good idea..one which I may follow through on later.
I do this all the time, sometimes its hard to work out what conversations are real and which ones I made up... I think i read somewhere that this is common in shy people, can't remember...
...Sticks and stones may break my bones; but words, they scar forever...

I've read that it's a symptom/component of Avoidant Personality Disorder.
Not saying any of us have AvPD or anything. Those with AvPD are painfully shy, so it makes sense that it's really common in (non-pathologically) shy people.
I always do this... in fact I do this every night while laying in my bed trying to fall asleep. I've been doing this since I was five. Sometimes the conversations get really emotional that I upset myself and cry... or get really angry... I thought I was the only one but apparently not.
Holding your head up is hard when you just want to stay on the ground.
Ha, yes, I live in la la land. I daydream all the time and one of the latest one is that I go in for X factor and cheryl cole is my mentor and I have to tell her about my self harm because they want me to wear a dress for the live shows, but she's really supportive.
It keeps me entertained. I just kinda view it as how I have dreams when im sleeping, but obviously im awake and its total fantasy situations that ive just made up conciously. It's very probably not normal but I don't think its really affecting my daily life.
