A couple of months ago, I went to the doctors about my insomnia for what felt like the 100th time.
It was a doctor I hadnt seen before, and she did a deppression screening test as insomnia can be a symptom of this. So, natrually as I was not expecting this, I freaked out a little, and lied a fair bit in answering.
But it still said that I was probably suffering from moderate deppression.
And the doc also thought I prolly had some sort of anxiety disorder.
They refered me to a mental health team in our area, and I've got an apointment at half nine tommorow morning.
And Im really scared. I mean, I dont know whats going to happen, and its all confusing and Ive now reached the point where I just wanna run away screaming so I don't have to go. Its just the thought of something finally happening after years of hiding everything. I dont know wether to lie to sort of get them to leave me alone and deal by myself or just tell them everything.
I know it's probably for the best, but has anyone ever been refered to one of these teams? What happens?
I hate to be a bother but I just needed to get this off my chest as its been swimming round in my head, and Im making it worse and worse...
I'm currently under a community mental health team (CMHT). I was also referred by my GP, a couple of years ago now.
Firstly, it's nothing to be scared of. Getting treatment for depression is nothing to be ashamed of and nothing is going to happen that you don't want to.
Your first meeting at the CMHT will probably be an assessment. They will have the referral information from your GP, but they will ask you some questions to find out a bit more. I would encourage you not to lie or hold anything back. It can be daunting telling people your struggles and thoughts, but believe me they've heard everything and won't be shocked or judge you.
It's important to answer their questions honestly so they can work out how best to support you.
Usually under the care of a CMHT you will be assigned a keyworker. They usually can be a Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN), a Social Worker or an Occupational Therapist (OT). If you are assigned a social worker it doesn't mean there is anything "wrong" with your home life at all. Social workers at a CMHT are working in a different capacity to social workers at Social Services.
Your keyworker will see you either at home or at the CMHT usually once a week or once a fortnight to see how you are doing. They oversee your care and if you have a psychiatrist, they liase with them. They can also refer you to the occupational therapy department of your CMHT where they usually have groups such as arts and crafts or leisure groups, or therapy groups to help manage anxiety or depression.
These things differ from CMHT to CMHT and I'm sure they will tell you what services they are able to offer you tomorrow.
Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.
I think Control Freak pretty much said everything :)
I just wanted to say, that i am also under the CMHT, and have a CPN. I was really rather scared at 1st, but once you get to meet them, they aren't that bad. If you need to talk anytime, PM me xxx
it was... alright
in a gut wrenching, really wish I wasn't here kind of way.
all these things kept going through my head and its just like... can any of this actually make any difference?
I mean, I hope it will, I want it to, but talking about all this stuff thats happened ect, made me feel really crap :(
And now I feel worse than ever, cause Im worrying about it
they want me to go back on the 23rd,
acos they think im 'at risk'
from what they didnt say, but my suspicion is leaning towards man eating bunnies perhaps...
Hey i am under my local CMHT and currently have a really good CPN [who was seeing me fortnightly but has now been off sick since October!].
im glad that you got through your appointment and i wanted to say a big well done for going.
That was really good and very brave.
im sorry that you feel worse now though after talking about things.
i think maybe i can relate a bit to what you are saying there as i think maybe ive felt like that a bit sometimes before perhaps but in reality its probably only temporary [not that that makes it any easier] and because you have started processing things if that makes sense and are facing them more directly now so that then you can then come out the other side.
So i know its horrible feeling like that but hopefully it will end up being for the positive in the end as you start to process everything more and get through.
im glad that the CMHT have offered you a further appointment and i hope that you find them supportive and will also begin to feel more comfortable etc perhaps and better opening up a bit as time goes by.
Perhaps also at your next session you could say to them that you felt worse after you talked last time.
Just so they are aware and also its not something bad about you or something you need to hide from them - the reason that im suggesting that perhaps you tell them is cos they are probably used to this coming up and can probably come up with ideas with you for keeping safe, distracted etc outside your therapy sessions a bit if things brought up in them are making you struggle more for a temporary [sorry about spelling!] period afterwards between sessions.
Take care, keep posting and also feel free to PM me anytime.Good luck.
i do not always manage to be around but i wish you all the very best - love and luck to you all!
